Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: Desert Dancer Date: 14 Sep 09 - 09:04 PM In the New York Times Mr. Swayze's cancer was diagnosed in January 2008. Six months after that, he had already outlived his prognosis and was filmed at an airport, smiling at photographers and calling himself, only half-facetiously, "a miracle dude." He even went through with plans to star in "The Beast," a new drama series for A&E, and filmed a complete season while undergoing treatment. Mr. Swayze insisted on continuing with the series. "How do you nurture a positive attitude when all the statistics say you're a dead man?" he said to Bill Carter of The New York Times last October. "You go to work." Too young... ~ Becky in Tucson |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: katlaughing Date: 14 Sep 09 - 09:14 PM I've always had a lot of respect for him and loved his acting/dancing, of course. It is sad to see he has left. People Magazine has a breaking news article about it obviously written ahead of time in anticipation. It carries a supposedly current quote by actress, Natasha Richardson, who died last year from a skiing accident. RIP |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Sep 09 - 09:17 PM He was okay as a singer also--this could go up above. He recorded one of the songs that was played in Dirty Dancing, and I suspect there are more musical performances out there to be found. SRS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: GUEST,mauvepink Date: 15 Sep 09 - 09:34 AM "No-one puts baby in the corner", and no-one will forget most of what he did. Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: bankley Date: 16 Sep 09 - 09:38 AM I liked the movie 'Roadhouse' where the late Jeff Healey was introduced to a wide audience. Smokin' blues. RIP PS |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: katlaughing Date: 16 Sep 09 - 12:01 PM While looking at the listings on TVGuide on the tv last night, they did a segment of an interview with him. It was so neat. He was talking about dancing being our first art/creative expression, it and music being universal, though those aren't his exact words. He went on, so enthusiastically about dancing being him and also being sacred, the highest form of "god" as he could get. I am not putting it nearly as well as he did and I haven't had any luck finding the quote, but it was beautiful. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: GUEST,Arthur Stiffy Date: 17 Sep 09 - 11:28 AM bugger the dancing and romance ! "Roadhouse", "Black Dog" and "Red Dawn" classic pre CGI era all-action fighting and stunts movies for blokes !!! Patrick Swayze was one of the best and more intelligent of the late 20th Cent US action heroes; even way up there in the same league as Jackie Chan and Jet Li. And He wasn't afraid to take the piss out of his own Hollywood status and persona with his fearless comedy roles in later career low budget indie and & TV films. I'm sure the mrs will enjoy my "Roadhouse" DVD this saturday night, then maybe "Donnie Darko" or "Keeping Mum" on Sunday. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Patrick Swayze (14 Sept 2009) From: fat B****rd Date: 18 Sep 09 - 03:08 PM I heard an interview a couple of years ago on Radio 2. What a polite and friendly bloke. I enjoy watching Dirty Dancing now and again. Point Break was also pretty good. RIP Johnny Castle. |
