Peta Webb & Ken Hall @The Goose Is Out
"The Mag(nolia) 211 Lordship Lane SE22 £5/£3 (floorspots) 8.00pm Friday 9th October
Peta Webb & Ken Hall are two outstanding singers who we have wanted to book for some time now . We hope you will come down and enjoy them as much as we do .

Floor singers and musicians welcome - please note this is a traditional night but the music can be of any country or culture! PM me or just come along when the doors open at 8pm (live music from 8.15pm).

Tickets are £5 on the door, or £3 if you're singing or playing.

Hope to see lots of you there!

Peta Webb, a Londoner with an Irish background, formed her highly-acclaimed individual vocal style through the influence of Irish traditional singers especially Margaret Barry, Sarah Makem and Sarah and Rita Keane. Peta believes firmly in the importance of learning directly from traditional singers wherever possible and has taken part in many collecting trips. With Ken Hall she now runs the successful Musical Traditions Club in London, which has a policy of presenting traditional singers.

Ken Hall, originally from Liverpool, started singing at the Islington Folk Club in London and was much influenced by Bob Davenport, Reg Hall and the traditional singers he heard there. He later developed an interest in the Northern Irish singing style of Joe Holmes and Len Graham , Kevin Mitchell and Roisin White. Ken has a fine voice and has a reputation for introducing in England the satirical and humorous songs of Sean Mone and others in the ongoing Irish songwriting tradition.

fjd - your link doesn't work, I think because of the extra o, so try this one . And it might be worth saying in this thread, rather than relying on the link, that Ken and Peta will be appearing on 9 October!

All best wishes for a great time.

Kitty

Oh God, that's it. Lock all the silver away! Nail down anything that moves! Count the light bulbs before the event and after! Frisk them for offensive weapons! And whatever you do, don't let them anywhere near anything remotely resembling alcoholic drink.

I'm only kidding of course. Peta and Ken are two of the most warm hearted and delightful people you could ever meet anywhere, and great mates. Bloody good singers as well.

And if you're still wondering, Ken and I take the piss out of each other unmercifully.

Enjoy.

This unfortunately clashes with the Lewes festival and Banbury and Tenterden apparently (as advertised on other threads!)

we always welcome new floorspots ... if you can sing or play something traditional send me a quick personal message , or turn up at 8.00 on the night , and we try to put people on for one song on a first come first served basis ... and you may also get a spot in the second half .

:-)
