Tim said he thought we should have more haiku threads, so...to quote a sign on a loo, from another thread: "Yer Tiz" (here it is):

'Pewter cat sleeping
A Siamese toasting brown
Leap and dissipate.

katlaughing (inspired by "Heyokah")

I love haiku, and wrote some in school, but I know there is a very specific formula. Do you remember what the formula is, Kat? Margarita

Haiku is, traditionally, a 3-line poem of 17 syllables, in a pattern of 5-7-5. Usually, the topic is nature.

I, personally, prefer limericks, but that's ok.

best,

There once was a fellow named Jacques
Who had a small hole in his sock
said "I don't give a darn
Cause it does me no harm
except when I get up to walk"

One of my favorites.

Two kindred souls adrift Like butterflies they glide To pause upon a flower still To share a speck in time.

Love, annap

That LeeJ is a tease!

I have been waiting for a time to show you all this site. It is for people who enjoy beautiful poetry. It is written by everyday people like our selves. In fact, you can enter your own. I don't know how to do a blue clicky thing, so here is the address. It is called "Passions in Poetry".

http://netpoets.com/index.htm

It's a beautiful site, but not related to music,so I haven't mentioned it till now. I use them for personal messages or important dates.

I didn't get the hiaku from here, though.

Enjoy.

Love, annap

I am fond of clerihews, which involve famous people in the first line, and then a rhyme, and then two clincher lines that define or describe the person comically.
For instance:
John Milton
Never stayed at a Hilton
Hotel
Which is just as well.

or:
John Stuart Mill
by an effort of will,
gave up his natural bonhomie,
and wrote Principles of Political Economy.

Mudcat clerihews:

Joe Offer
Always seems to proffer
Good sense,
Over the Mudcat fence.

Catspaw,
Has only one flaw
It involves doing things heinous
With a possum's anus.

and so on. Yours, Peter T.

Superb, PeterT! Touche! Again!

Peter T.
Causes lots of glee
When writing on the Mudcat
Of one less known as Pat.

And one just for you, Kat, but you'll need to pick the last line (depending on circumstances I suppose) and I may have got the color wrong:

Sacred goddess Bast
Your gray priestess on my lap
Sleeps in your honor

or

Sacred goddess Bast
Your gray priestess on my lap
Purrs down your blessing

Where was kayak of Amos,
Now only ripples.

Like bon mots of leaves
Claire's haiku drifts by in glee,
Summer heat lifted.

Argghh! I am out of practice! Thanks, Claire, I love them both! Nigel, good one!

Anybody still in contact with Tim Jaques? I used to enjoy corresponding with him, but haven't heard from him for years.
Contact me privately if you have contact information.
