The fun theory, an initiative by Volkswagen "is dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people's behaviour for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it's change for the better."

There are two videos posted: in one, a subway staircase, often neglected in favor of the escalator, is turned into a musical keyboard and attracts more use.

In practice, I wonder if the crowds during rush hour would find the sounds more stressful than fun, but it would be easy to implement something to limit the instrument's output at that time...

More fun! I'm for it!

Patch Adams has been doing it for decades...and he's been having fun with people who are dying, too...making them laugh out loud and enjoy the life they have left...

He's the most incredible man.

OH how this world needs more FUN!

I know, we could make a start by throwing away all those who want 'Pre School Learning Alliances' and replacing them with those who want 'Playgroups' to return...

Then...we could give our children their childhoods back...and ban the Sex Industry Bastards from taking over their lives ever again.

I'd have great fun being The Queen of Hearts and saying "Off with their heads!" to the Corporate Ones, and little by little the tick boxes, the target boxes, the lack of tea breaks, the unpaid lunchbreaks, the 'don't give a shit about our staff' outlooks would be replaced by loyalty, happiness and fun, as people once more relaxed about life, as they used to do...

The musical stair is delightful, but like Desert Dancer, I wonder what it really sounds like when many people are on it.

Our world needs more fun, that's for sure.

Ideally it should be both. The choice of play materials should lead to learning. The idea that 'play' is the same as 'running riot' is false, but may be what led to a change of name.

It's the pressure of inspection, and box ticking that sends things awry.
I found when I was a Playgroup supervisor that I could teach or I could record. Not both. So the children were learning, but I couldn't say just what they'd learned in any session.

Have you come across ' High/Scope. Activity and recording are made integral, and the child is doing almost all the choosing.

No, I don't believe that, Mo.

'The Serious Ones' took over the Playgroups, marched in their with their briefcases and set up their photo of The Minister of Children in their mind's eye.

Absolutely.....and it never used to be that way.

Why do we *need* to 'record'?
Children learn all the time through playing. Why can't they just be left to do that, quietly?

We've mucked up, bigtime.
