I am a solo performer.

Aside from the silly analogy to masturbation, I think there is a point here. Often, the soloist in the music business is ignored in favor of bands (louder, bigger) or never given credence unless they develop a kind of public "buzz".

A personal statement by a soloist is a necessary pursuit. Often a vision for a song
or concert gets obscured by "too many cooks". I would like to see more soloists and less bands. Certainly, there is a place for both. A soloist can bring to a performance an
original and unique vision.

You have to balance it with your audience.

I get more people generally with a band than a solo performer. We are talking 60 people versus 100 for a band.

What you lot don't realise is that Claddagh Records once put out an LP of Derek Bell, harper with the Chieftains, called "Derek Bell Plays With Himself".

The word was that he played 99 tunes that recording session before needing to change hands.

Unfortunately, when you play by yourself it often seems like you're playing only for yourself. (A second for the suggestions above that "the crowd" likes big groups and bigger noise.)
