Subject: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: GUEST,erbert Date: 15 Oct 09 - 10:28 AM I am a solo performer. I might consider joining in with others as a duo or trio if I meet the right people at local clubs or on the internet and they are well equipped and sufficiently talented. |

Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Oct 09 - 02:04 PM Your logic is irrefutable, GS. ;-) The person I always dreamed of playing with was Joan Baez. Well, and Buffy Sainte-Marie too. And then there's Winona Ryder...I'm not sure which instrument she favors, but I don't really care. |

Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Stringsinger Date: 18 Oct 09 - 01:37 PM Aside from the silly analogy to masturbation, I think there is a point here. Often, the soloist in the music business is ignored in favor of bands (louder, bigger) or never given credence unless they develop a kind of public "buzz". A personal statement by a soloist is a necessary pursuit. Often a vision for a song or concert gets obscured by "too many cooks". I would like to see more soloists and less bands. Certainly, there is a place for both. A soloist can bring to a performance an original and unique vision. |
Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Little Hawk Date: 18 Oct 09 - 01:42 PM I would also like to see more soloists and less bands. Communication is clearer with a soloist. |
Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Rasener Date: 18 Oct 09 - 03:06 PM You have to balance it with your audience. I get more people generally with a band than a solo performer. We are talking 60 people versus 100 for a band. My main guests go like this for the coming gigs Solo act Two duo acts Four piece band Two duo acts Five piece band Duo Two duos Solo and three piece band Two solo acts Solo act Solo act That takes me up to August 2010 |

Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Fred McCormick Date: 19 Oct 09 - 09:39 AM What you lot don't realise is that Claddagh Records once put out an LP of Derek Bell, harper with the Chieftains, called "Derek Bell Plays With Himself". The word was that he played 99 tunes that recording session before needing to change hands. |
Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Fred McCormick Date: 19 Oct 09 - 09:42 AM Eeeh, I must be slow off the mark today. That accomplishment would probably make DB the last of the blind Irish harpers. |
Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Bryn Pugh Date: 19 Oct 09 - 11:09 AM Snow White changed hands for the eighth time and sang "Some day my Prince will come . . . " I'll get me Barbour. |
Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: Joe_F Date: 19 Oct 09 - 08:26 PM There was once a young fellow named Rand Who sat seeing the sights in the sand. "My problem," said he, "Is as hard as can be, But I think I can take it in hand." |
Subject: RE: I play with Myself and I am proud of it From: JohnInKansas Date: 20 Oct 09 - 02:53 AM ???????? Unfortunately, when you play by yourself it often seems like you're playing only for yourself. (A second for the suggestions above that "the crowd" likes big groups and bigger noise.) John |
