Subject: Tech: Where is everybody? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Oct 09 - 12:20 PM I see the Cat is up, but nobody's home. So I thought I'd post this to see if it showed up as a thread... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Oct 09 - 12:23 PM Now I see everything looks back to normal. It was just that the page furniture was there, but there were no threads showing at all. I was a bit worried lest Max's refit might have imploded. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: richd Date: 18 Oct 09 - 12:24 PM I was wondering where everyone was. Hey ho. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Paul Burke Date: 18 Oct 09 - 01:11 PM Thank you once more Max! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Bruce MacNeill Date: 18 Oct 09 - 01:35 PM Thanks to Max. It's a little early in the season for Pennsylvania to get knocked out by Winter but Winter in Pennsylvania was one of the reasons I moved to Virginia. Stay warm Max. If it starts this early, it could be a long cold Winter in State College. Somewhere back around '95 there was 6 inches of ice on everything, trees falling over from the weight etc. Hope you don't get that again. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: frogprince Date: 18 Oct 09 - 08:53 PM I was getting a little panicky too; this came on, by coincidence, with a bunch of peskiness I've been getting in the form of warnings that various websites have a certification-of-security problem, which I think is just a screwup for at least the most part. I was afraid that some crap in my software was blocking the Cat. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Abdul The Bul Bul Date: 18 Oct 09 - 10:37 PM Phew, back among people I know!. Al - in Dubai for a year |

Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Andrez Date: 19 Oct 09 - 05:11 PM So is there any chance of a notice being placed prominently on the home page advising of downtime or am I a donkey and just missed something obvious........ hee haw says he braying :-) Cheers, Andrez |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: VirginiaTam Date: 19 Oct 09 - 05:18 PM This was a no warning 3 day power cut due to freak snow storm. Now that the servers not at Max's house and is in the land of winter storms and downed power lines, there is no way to put up a waring. However there is a Mudcat Cafe Facebook group where we can sometimes find out what is happening when the cat is down. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: semi-submersible Date: 19 Oct 09 - 09:26 PM If there were a really handy way for Mudcatizens to pay (voluntary) regular taxes to maintain our favourite cyber-playground, I wonder if Max and the other volunteers could afford to backup the site on another computer at a different place so the Mudcat Cafe wouldn't have to close unless both computers got knocked out at once. Well, I guess that should be in a Support the Mudcat thread. "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone." - Joni Mitchell |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Rowan Date: 19 Oct 09 - 09:37 PM This was a no warning 3 day power cut due to freak snow storm. Which explains why, over the weekend, I couldn't get the computer system at Melbourne's State Library to load Mudcat. I had thought it strange and wondered. All power to Max's elbow! Cheers, Rowan |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 20 Oct 09 - 03:05 AM However there is a Mudcat Cafe Facebook group where we can sometimes find out what is happening when the cat is down. ======= folkinfo is another place to find out why Mudcat is down for those of us who are not members of facebook sandra |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Andrez Date: 21 Oct 09 - 12:37 AM Hey Rowan, are you somewhere around Melbourne? How long? Mebbe a cuppa or a feed somewhere? Cheers, Andrez |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: semi-submersible Date: 21 Oct 09 - 03:49 PM Thanks, Sandra. I'll bookmark the FolkInfo forum above, or Joe Offer's perennial Mudcat Down thread there, in place of my defunct Mudcat Annexe link (http://jonbanjo.com/forum/default.php) which used to be the place to get info until the 'cat came back. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Where is everybody? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 21 Oct 09 - 07:20 PM Jon created 2 sites - The Annex, a non-music site now closed & Folkinfo, a site for research on songs. sandra |
