Subject: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: GUEST,Penguin Egg Date: 23 Oct 09 - 07:52 AM After the controversial appearance of the UK fascist leader Nick Griffin on Any Questions, it made me wonder who would be the perfect panel guests, living or dead. I would invite Adolf Hitler, Oliver Cromwell, Tom Paine and Martha Gellhorn. Alive, I would invite Clive James, Tom Paulin, Louis Farrakhan and David Irvin. |

Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Azizi Date: 23 Oct 09 - 11:47 AM Kudos to you, Snail, on your multiple play on names-Mudcat member's Banjiman, poet/spoken word artist Benjamin Zephaniah, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, and my name, Azizi (which rhymes with "Warsi" and is a KiSwahili form of an Arabic name-"Sayeeda" is an Arabic name so I can understand how my name got in the mix). But in case folks don't get it, here's the post that started this whole send up: thread.cfm?threadid=124461&messages=122#2750878 But if I'm going to be given a title, why not Queen or at least Duchess? :o) |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Oct 09 - 11:51 AM Me and three mates in a pub. We could put anything right. Don't think Dimbles could keep up though... :D (eG) |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: TheSnail Date: 23 Oct 09 - 01:12 PM But if I'm going to be given a title, why not Queen or at least Duchess? I'm afraid the only way you could get to be Queen would be by marrying Prince Charles and Duchess tends to be an honourary title for pub landladies. How about President For Life? |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Azizi Date: 23 Oct 09 - 01:41 PM The Snail, you're only referring to the UK traditions regarding those titles. Somewhere, in a parallel universe, I am a benevolent Queen (or at least I am in my imagination). In the real world, I have to make do the best I can. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Lox Date: 23 Oct 09 - 03:11 PM It's not Azizi to be Queen ... |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Stower Date: 23 Oct 09 - 03:32 PM Benjamin Zephaniah - because he is so erudite and humane. Michael Gove - because, although I disagree with almost anything he says, he is very articulate and would make for interesting debates with the others. Jesus - because, potentially, he has so much to answer for, and so we can see if he would side with the best or the worst of his followers, which I think is not entirely clear from what was written of him, presuming any part of that is true. Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King - for the same very obvious reasons. Sojourner Truth - to show us all that being wise and articulate is not the same as being 'educated'. Zawadi Mongane - as an example of incredible and humbling humanity in the most horrific circumstance. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: gnu Date: 23 Oct 09 - 03:44 PM God, alone. For the whole hour. And Bill Maher as the guest host. Of course, if George Carlin was still alive, him first, in a two hour show.... if God lasted that long. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 23 Oct 09 - 03:52 PM Do they have any equivalent programme in the States? Though I suppose if there were it'd have to be spelt "program". |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: gnu Date: 23 Oct 09 - 03:57 PM Well, it is shorter, but that doesn't mean one must give up one's language or heritage. Spell it as you wish. |

Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Paul Burke Date: 23 Oct 09 - 06:04 PM I'd vote for Azizi as Queen of England and USA. But the panel: Archie Andrews Professor Stanley Unwin Senator Bullfrog Nick Griffin Wild Man Fisher Horatio Bottomley Enoch Gorblesim Powell Gaius Nero Imperator The Speaking Clock |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Azizi Date: 23 Oct 09 - 06:18 PM LOL! My name is too ez to pun around with. But I really don't want to be Queen of any real place. I was just having fun when I wrote that. ** With regard to this thread's topic, since I was introduced to Benjamin Zephaniah through a Mudcat thread, let me agree with those who have already mentioned his name. I believe that Benjamin Zsphaniah would be an excellent addition to a Question Time panel-and not just about race, or immigration, but for other topics of interest. And I'm surprised that no one's mentioned President Barack Obama. I know he would be another great choicefor a Question Time guest. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: gnu Date: 23 Oct 09 - 06:29 PM He's too inexperienced, Azizi. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: gnu Date: 23 Oct 09 - 06:35 PM Oh, please do not misinterpret my words... my statement was in light ot the thread subject. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: gnu Date: 23 Oct 09 - 06:36 PM I have nowt but accolades for Obama to date, but he has yet to prove "perfection" in the sense of the thread. |

Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Azizi Date: 23 Oct 09 - 08:47 PM That's how easy punning will be. [To "complete" the words of that Jackson 5 song] ** And by the way, gnu, I gnu that your 23 Oct 09 - 06:29 PM comment wasn't to be taken too seriously-given the lightheatted nature of this thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Azizi Date: 23 Oct 09 - 08:49 PM not to mention the "lighthearted" nature of the thread, too. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 24 Oct 09 - 01:42 AM Actually, I'm sure Mr Zephaniah has been a guest on QT in the past. As has Billy Bragg. To explain, the panel normally consists of representatives of the 3 major UK parties, Lab,Tory,Lib-Dem. and appearances by one from the smaller parties, plus someone from Left field, who has maybe an interesting slant on life. It generally works IMHO. But this thread is more lighthearted...My 4 panellists? mmmm. Well the whole of human history is a bit big, so I'll stick with the 20th century. 1. Hitler (justifying the Holocaust) 2. Churchill (justifying the bombing of Dresden) 3. Stalin (justifing the Gulags) 4. Pol Pot (justifying the Killing Fields) The audience to be made up of the souls of the victims. Just my two pennorth, but I've obviously never met any of these characters, and it would be interesting to hear thir views. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: Banjiman Date: 24 Oct 09 - 04:43 AM "Banjiman Zephaniah." I am humbled (completely) just to be mentioned in the same breath as this man (even in jest). Sorry again Azizi for getting your name mixed up with the good Baroness. I must say though I though she was excellent in how she put Griffin down. It could be worse, I might have got you mixed up with Jack Straw! Perfect Panel: Kennedy Rabbie Burns Nelson Mandela Margaret Thatcher (maybe they could do a "Griffin job" on her) Fanny The Wonder Dog (She can bring Julian with her if she wants) Now that would be entertaining. |
Subject: RE: BS: The perfect Question Time panel guests From: John MacKenzie Date: 24 Oct 09 - 06:01 AM First get rid of that tosser Dimbleby, who thinks the show is about him. What is it with some people who are picked to moderate something, and then want to be in control of all the contributors. He's the chairman FFS, he asks more questions than anybody. He sometimes seems to regard the guests as superfluous. He is there to keep order, and introduce the guests, not to air his own opinions. Rant over ;) |

I said , " I`d like to see David el Gnomo`s lot. Tanner to a knicker they could make a better fist of it than what I`ve seen over the years" `e said, "Yeah, it`s a good idea but we can`t `ave people saying what they really feel.
