Subject: BS: Stewart Brand-Ectopragmatist From: Janie Date: 26 Oct 09 - 10:53 PM Heard an interview today with Stewart Brand and learned that he has a new book book out, Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto Us old hippie types will remember him as one of the founders of Co-Evolution Quarterly/Whole Earth Review and the Whole Earth Catologs. A very bright man and deep thinker, I understand that he puts forth some ideas that many of us will find quite startling, given our memories of him as a "back-to-the-earth" guru. I intend to read it, and see if it shakes my paradigm. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stewart Brand-Ectopragmatist From: Janie Date: 26 Oct 09 - 10:59 PM I remember that as Whole Earth Review focused more and more on computer technologies I quit reading, and eventually stopped subscribing. It was ahead of me. I didn't have a home computer until 2002, and didn't have access to, or use them at work until the late '90's. When I stopped subscribing, I was disgusted with them. It was years later before I understood how ahead of the curve Brand, Jay Baldwin, and the other frequent contributors and editors were. In short, they were so far ahead of me that they lost me. |
