Subject: RE: BS: 6 years for causing or allowing......... From: SINSULL Date: 27 Oct 09 - 02:09 PM "Barker's appeal against a conviction for raping a two-year-old girl in a separate case will be heard by the Court of Appeal on 24 November. Due to publicity surrounding the case, it is thought all three individuals convicted are likely to be given new identities on their release to protect them from vigilante attacks." Why should they be protected? There is a fairly recent law in the US which requires sex offenders to register when they move into a neighborhood. I received a notice that my next door neighbor was a sex offender after I bought my house. Everyone on the street was notified. The son had had sex with an underage girl who lied about her age. The family has to deal with the repercussions forever or as long as their son lives with them. Small price to protect against animals like this. The worst offenders are drummed out of neighborhoods. One city had them living in a park. Given the percentage of repeat offenders, life imprisonment is not a bad idea whn the crime is as violent and vicious as this. |

Subject: RE: BS: 6 years for causing or allowing......... From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 27 Oct 09 - 03:29 PM It would seem that despite the absolute misery that was inflicted on this child for almost all of his short life we all need to show consideration towards the people who did it! Nobody's reputation can be ruined! |

Subject: RE: BS: 6 years for causing or allowing......... From: Stower Date: 28 Oct 09 - 12:09 PM This is appalling but I'm not entirely sure, Rapaire, that this does demonstrate how much, or how little, children are valued by our society. I think it goes deeper than that; it is more rotten than that. The British government have the Children Act in law. It's too much to go into here, but the bottom line is that any child who alleges anything against any adult is, by default, believed to be telling the truth. The adult is, by default, believed to be guilty until proven otherwise. The thinking behind the Act is that all children are truth-tellers and all adults are liars. If you are British and work in a job where you come into contact with children on a daily basis - teacher, child-minder, social worker - then you probably know someone who has has their life ruined by this Act, either for weeks, months, years or forever. When murderers come out of jail to offend again, when innocent people take years to be released, when the frightened go to jail for acting in self-defence against known thugs, then the whole system of law is in need of a radical shake-up. What this story and my comment above demonstrates to me is that the entire criminal law system needs a fundamental overhaul. |
