I'm trying to find the lyrics to this song by Burl Ives. It's on a cd collection of his called Little bitty tear, the nashville years.
I can't find the lyrics...and I can't even seem to buy the download. I keep having problems.
any old calypso singers out there?

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but:

O Tinni lend me your pigeon to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my pigeon gone wild in the bush, my pigeon gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your rooster to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my rooster gone crowin' in the day, my rooster gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your pony to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my pony gone trottin' up the track, my pony gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your donkey to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my donkey gone brayin' in the field, my donkey gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your turtle to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my turtle gone swimmin' in the sea, my turtle gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your pigeon to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my pigeon gone wild in the bush, my pigeon gone wild (2x)

The US Copyright Office says MY CHICKEN RAN 'WAY TO THE BUSH was written by Mel Tillis & John C. Parks in 1963.

Burl Ives recorded it on an LP called "Singin' Easy" Decca DL-4433, 1963.

I couldn't find any lyrics or sound files online.

Ives sings it there. He seems to try an island accent. However, the lyrics are clear for the purpose of getting the lyrics.

Transcribed from 999's link "My Chicken Ran 'Way to the Bush"

My Chicken Run 'Way to the Bush
As sung by Burl Ives on "Singing Easy"

When I was a little boy on my island home
My mamma gave me chicken for my very own
But my chicken run 'way to the bush x2
Old red rooster come along and
My chicken run 'way to the bush x2

I grew to be a young man and a pretty girl passed my way
She winked her eye, now I know why my chicken run away that day
We both run away to the bush x2
She winked her eye, now I know why
Everybody run away to the bush x2
