For those of you who will be fortunate enough to see Joe in the flesh at some stage in the future here's a little traditional tune you may care to play to farewll hin at the end of an enjoyable session.

In the best traditions of the folk process I hereby rename the tune 'Hail Joe' or 'Hullo Joe" if you insist, and also seek contributions for the lyrics - 'Hail Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand ...' is already spoken for.

Subject: Tune Add: HULLO, JOE From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Jul 99 - 02:40 AM I'll tell ya, thosp, that's one of my favorites. 1943, words by my man Johnny Mercer and music by Harold Arlen. Introduced by Fred Astaire in the film The Sky's the Limit, popularized by Sinatra - but the recording I like best is by Willie Nelson. I wonder if we're the only ones who know the name of it. The tune is a trad one as I said in my posting, but I would be pleased if you used it as your signature instrumental/song. I also located other tunes to suit the names of our recent departees, but was respectful enough not to do it - yet!

Joe is a great photographer as well as a great researcher and speedy responder: look at his web page. I think you said you're retiring later this year Joe, if that means even more time for the Mudcat, we wish you a long and productive retirement! Do I detect an interest in quirky buildings or just lighthouses? If the former you might be interested in the UK Landmark Trust (the URL I have for them doesn't seeme to work at present but I'll investigate!) which preserves small interesting and threatened buildings and lets them out for holidays. We've stayed in a castle gatehouse, a fomer prison, a water tower, a chicken keeper's cottage, a hunting lodge and a Victorian fort cut off at high tide! |
