Subject: RE: Farewell To Joe From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Jul 99 - 05:22 AM Well, Roger, I've always loved lighthouses because I grew up in sight of a lighthouse on the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan, but I like all sorts of architecture and study buildings wherever I travel. Click here to get to the U.S. National Trust for Historic Preservation. Click here for an amazing site on Canadian architecture. Sorry folks, I expect to be here at the 'Cat for years to come. -Joe Offer- http://homepages.msn.com/YosemiteDr/joeoffer/Index.html |

Subject: RE: Farewell To Joe From: Roger the zimmer Date: 27 Jul 99 - 04:46 AM Terrible thread title: brought me out in a panic attack! Glad you aren't leaving! Great song though. Joe is a great photographer as well as a great researcher and speedy responder: look at his web page. I think you said you're retiring later this year Joe, if that means even more time for the Mudcat, we wish you a long and productive retirement! Do I detect an interest in quirky buildings or just lighthouses? If the former you might be interested in the UK Landmark Trust (the URL I have for them doesn't seeme to work at present but I'll investigate!) which preserves small interesting and threatened buildings and lets them out for holidays. We've stayed in a castle gatehouse, a fomer prison, a water tower, a chicken keeper's cottage, a hunting lodge and a Victorian fort cut off at high tide! |
Subject: RE: Farewell To Joe From: John in Brisbane Date: 27 Jul 99 - 04:06 AM Joe, it must be the way my ABCMUS is set up by default. With the original settings as posted my ABCMUS craaaaawled through the tune.
The tune is a trad one as I said in my posting, but I would be pleased if you used it as your signature instrumental/song. I also located other tunes to suit the names of our recent departees, but was respectful enough not to do it - yet!
Regards, John |
Subject: Tune Add: HULLO, JOE From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Jul 99 - 02:40 AM I'll tell ya, thosp, that's one of my favorites. 1943, words by my man Johnny Mercer and music by Harold Arlen. Introduced by Fred Astaire in the film The Sky's the Limit, popularized by Sinatra - but the recording I like best is by Willie Nelson. I wonder if we're the only ones who know the name of it. John in Brisbane, I changed the ABC above as requested, but I hate it. So, I changed it to what I like below. Nice tune. Is it your own composition? -Joe Offer- ABC format: X:1

Subject: RE: Farewell To Joe From: John in Brisbane Date: 26 Jul 99 - 10:48 PM Joe, I must admit that the title may be a trifle provocative, but I figured we needed a bit of light relief.
In the best traditions of the folk process I hereby rename the tune 'Hail Joe' or 'Hullo Joe" if you insist, and also seek contributions for the lyrics - 'Hail Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand ...' is already spoken for.
Mischievously, |
Subject: RE: Farewell To Joe From: Joe Offer Date: 26 Jul 99 - 10:18 PM 19 minutes. Darn. I thought I was lightning-fast, but I got sidetracked. Nice tune, John, although I think I'd prefer one called "Hello to Joe". -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Farewell To Joe From: Joe Offer Date: 26 Jul 99 - 10:13 PM Gee, that thread title gave me a start. I thought I had become the latest victim of the recent turmoil. (nervous grin) Well, let's see how long it took me to copy the tune and convert it back into a MIDI, play the tune, and respond. Are there lyrics, John - or don't I want to hear the lyrics? -Joe- |
Subject: Tune Add: FAREWELL TO JOE From: John in Brisbane Date: 26 Jul 99 - 09:54 PM Every good thing has to come to an end. For those of you who will be fortunate enough to see Joe in the flesh at some stage in the future here's a little traditional tune you may care to play to farewll hin at the end of an enjoyable session.
