Subject: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: GUEST,Ed Date: 02 Dec 09 - 08:30 AM Hi, The search facility isn't working for me right now. Even a search for the word 'the' results in: The Digitrad Results No Results in the Digitrad The Forum Results No Results in the Forum Not complaining, just reporting... Thanks, Ed |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: maeve Date: 02 Dec 09 - 08:35 AM Ed- I just tried searching the word "berry" and got many results. Maybe try reloading Mudcat? maeve |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 02 Dec 09 - 01:16 PM The search seems fine (as far as the last time it was indexed). Ed - searching for the word the will produce no results because it's almost certainly one of the stop words. Text search engines use indexes of words in the documents (and Mudcat does this - I think the last indexing here was August/September time, but I'm not sure) and typically have a (usually relatively short, up to 200 say) list of words which are excluded from a search because they would match almost every document or such a high proportion that the results are too large to be useful. Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Dec 09 - 02:59 PM That's exactly the case - words that will return too many results, are set to return none. It you search for muskrat, for example, you will find a lot of results (and many are very interesting). -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: BK Lick Date: 24 Dec 09 - 09:57 PM I have to agree -- sadly, the search appears to be broken. Is it indeed working for others? —BK |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Alice Date: 24 Dec 09 - 10:03 PM Just used it on "fruitcake" and it worked for me. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Dec 09 - 10:20 PM ...for better, or for worse.. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: BK Lick Date: 24 Dec 09 - 10:40 PM Oh dear! Must be something at my end then. I've tried Firefox, Safari. and Camino -- search only turns up DT entries, no forum entries. It's always worked ok for me before. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: maire-aine Date: 24 Dec 09 - 10:55 PM On 16-Dec-09, I tried to search for Rick Fielding's song Voices of Struggle so I could paste a link in another post, but I got nothing from the search results. I tried it just now, putting in "Voices of Struggle" (without the quotation marks), and still not "No Results". I think there may still be a problem. Maryanne |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Thompson Date: 25 Dec 09 - 02:43 AM Yup. Searched for Raglan Road and for Kavanagh - topic/s much rehearsed in the forum, and got zilch. (Was going to mention that The Poetry Archive has Kavanagh reading a couple of his poems, though not, oddly, Raglan Road, which would probably bring them many visitors. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: GUEST,Mike Yates Date: 25 Dec 09 - 02:46 AM I've been having the same problem for a couple of days now. I've been typing in names that I know should be there, but with negative results. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 25 Dec 09 - 03:35 AM while you're having problems try a Google Site search, using the following format "raglan road" site:mudcat.org result here gives 172 results sandra |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: GUEST Date: 25 Dec 09 - 05:26 AM I wanted to post in a thread, and search found it, but it wouldn't load. Instead it froze my computer and I had to do a warm re-boot. TWICE |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 25 Dec 09 - 05:37 AM Search does seem to be having problems. maire-aine - you can often find song titles faster by using Filter with age drop down set to all - doing that with struggle in the Filter returns three results, one of which is: Voices of Struggle (Rick Fielding). However searching for struggle fails to return any Forum threads, only DT results. It does look as if search may be only searching DT. It may be better to use Google (as suggested above) until this is looked at. Mick |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 25 Dec 09 - 08:48 AM Last week I wanted to post to the Seamus Ennis Appreciation Society thread. No combination of these four words brought it up. I had to Google to get at it. I have had the same experience in the past trying to bring up threads that I knew to exist but was unable to bring up through Mudcat search. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? From: Alice Date: 25 Dec 09 - 11:36 AM I see, you are talking about searching threads, not the DT. I've had that trouble sometimes, too. You know the thread exists, but it won't come up in results. I tend to use the filter search most often now. (A good reason to trace threads you really care about). |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? - fixed? From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Jan 10 - 01:50 AM It seems to be working now. What do you think? Anybody still having problems? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? - fixed? From: GUEST,999 Date: 10 Jan 10 - 01:54 AM DT search for keyword is working. No so for the forum. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? - fixed? From: My guru always said Date: 10 Jan 10 - 05:16 AM I've never had a problem with the Forum search, but I always use the 'Old Adv Forum Search' from the drop-down. Is that a different animal??? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? - fixed? From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 10 Jan 10 - 06:27 AM Joe - seems to still be problems - see Lyr Req: Lion Tamer for an example. Search for Valiant returns only entries from DT, none from Forum, although the Lyr Req: Captain Valiant thread (which does contain the word several times!) was from 2003 and should have been indexed. MGAS - the Subject search of the old version is OK (I think), but the Forum & DT search bit looks as if it uses the new search anyway and fails to locate the thread info, only the DT. Mick |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? - fixed? From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 10 Jan 10 - 07:18 AM I failed to bring up a thread I meant to post to earlier today. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? - fixed? From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 10 Jan 10 - 07:37 AM Peter - if you know anthing from the thread title, use the word in Filter with the Age drop-down set to All. Otherwise, use the Google search box for general search (the bottom-most box in the Search area at the top of the forum index page). Mick |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat search broken? - fixed? From: Young Buchan Date: 10 Jan 10 - 09:08 AM It is definitely broken as far as the Forum is concerned. I tried to recheck a reference I had looked up successfully last week (Unlucky Duck). This time nothing. |
