At least he has frets top help confuse him.

I would love to see him explain the similarly tuned violin.....

I have a mate who cannot play the accordion, not that it ever stopped him. I sent him the link to let him know there is empathy out there......

So the notes go DOWN the scale as you move UP the fretboard?

Now I can see where I've been getting it wrong all this time.

Without casting any aspersions, I believe the gentleman is a bit on the dyslexic side.

A lot of people pick up a mando or guitar and are confused that the "top" string is physically at the bottom and vice versa...an instructor's job is to get them straightened out on that on day 1, not confuse them more!

As for why he's naming all the notes on the descending chromatic scale while playing the ascending one...that I believe is the rare mando-dyslexia kicking in. However there's no reason to be showing this to a beginning player anyway.

I feel kind of bad for him--but when I see some of his vids have a quarter-million viewers, I feel bad for THEM.

W-O

Amazing! It was posted 2 years ago, with an immediate post pointing out it was wrong, and it's still there. Doesn't the guy realise what a complete idiot he's making of himself?

Who knows what his objective is? That video gave me several minutes of completely innocent merriment, for which I am duly grateful.

I dare say he had litle enough to do with it; as he
pays his head-gardener (three hundred) a year.

"Mike Oberst is a mandolin instructor and professional musician based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is proficient in nearly ten different instruments."

Presumably mandolin is the "nearly"
