What do they all have in common? They would all have failed the X factor auditions, and would all have refused to sing Elton John/Queen/Michael Jackson songs. Or if they had, they would have done them their way and not Karaoke. |

The common belief was that the race for Christmas number one had been destroyed by the X Factor. For the last four years the winning act has been top of the festive charts by a landslide. Bookmakers only took bets on who would be number two. This year the corporate might of Simon Cowell has been defeated by a husband and wife's Facebook campaign." |

Subject: RE: If you don't like x-factor you're weird From: Mr Red Date: 21 Dec 09 - 06:45 AM Let's be honest. Most of us have little or no truck with the contestants because they are barely contestants. They are hopefuls with a lot of talent. Put them in the folk genre and they might be acknowledged, but it ain't profitable enough for them. The Show's owners are a different matter. Cynical, greedy, manipulative, and the public fall for it en mass. They nay sayers here just want to get on with what they do. Wall to wall crud like X factor is no different to Football (soccer) or Football (Rugby) or Football (?) or Baseball/cricket etc ad nauseum. It pervades the media to the point of needlessness. If any of the afficianados slip on the ice and break an elbow - I rather think the importance of mental wall-paper will be put in perspective. It just ain't that important in the grand scheme of things. Coffins get a pretty poor TV reception. |

Date: 21 Dec 09 - 07:06 PM I'm more than happy to be considered weird by SC, who doesn't deserve the publicity he courts by saying such things in public. Those 'phone in and vote' programs are a dreadful con - I'm surprised people are still so gullible. |
