Subject: RE: Merry Christmas Everyone! From: Genie Date: 25 Dec 09 - 10:04 PM Very lovely "sermon," Suffet, and I echo your sentiment of wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season and new year. Here's my musical Christmas card. (The pic is pretty lousy and the audio quality could be much better but you can "feel" the song and hear the lyrics - which is the point.) Merry Christmas today from sunny-but-not-hot San Diego (where the natives wouldn't mind a little more rain at all!). Genie |

Subject: RE: Merry Christmas Everyone! From: ClaireBear Date: 26 Dec 09 - 01:49 AM Suffet, that was beautifully -- and well -- said. Thank you. Laurel, there's a raven on top of my Christmas tree this very moment (a very realistic life-sized raven hand puppet, to be precise) and dangling from his beak is a sun ornament. It's quite grand, and pretty imposing, too! To everyone, may peace come down like a soft winter snowfall to surround you in drifts of calm and contentment, until the earth blossoms again. Merry Christmas. ClaireBear |
Subject: RE: Merry Christmas Everyone! From: GUEST,Falco Date: 26 Dec 09 - 06:30 AM Ever thought about where the title "Boxing day" comes from ? I looked it up and found this. "The name derives from the Anglo-Saxon tradition of giving seasonal gifts in the form of a "Christmas box" to less wealthy people and slaves. In the United Kingdom this was later extended to various workpeople such as labourers, servants, tradespeople and postal workers. Boxing Day is traditionally celebrated on 26 December, St. Stephen's Day, the day after Christmas Day. Unlike St. Stephen's Day, Boxing Day is a secular holiday and is not always on 26 December: the public holiday is generally moved to the following Monday if 26 December is a Saturday. If 25 December is a Saturday then both the Monday and Tuesday may be public holidays. However the date of observance of Boxing Day varies between countries". |
Subject: RE: Merry Christmas Everyone! From: mg Date: 26 Dec 09 - 03:28 PM Boxing day almost got me killed in Newfoundland. I had never heard of it, thought day after Christmas..great day to go shopping..went shopping..no stores no nothing open, and a huge storm blew in..one of the killer types. No buses, no taxis, no places open. Somehow I made it home several miles...scary. But happy boxing day everyone. mg |

Subject: RE: Merry Christmas Everyone! From: Genie Date: 27 Dec 09 - 01:08 AM Gnu, not sure what you're thanking me for, but you're welcome, and thanks for the "kewl!" Oh, and BTW, everyone, today (at least here in California it's still Dec. 26) is also St. Stephen's Day. (Let's hope everyone had a much, much better day than he did!). Genie |
Subject: RE: Merry Christmas Everyone! From: Genie Date: 27 Dec 09 - 01:10 AM OK, Gnu, I guess you meant the song (since I hadn't posted anything else since then). Glad you liked it. Hope your holidays were/are warm and wonderful too. G |
