Or not!
I like to celebrate being the only species known to know that spring will come again, even on the darkest day of winter, and to understand that since that *was* the darkest day, they get brighter for a while now! And we give and receive a LOT of presents on Christmas...

I celebrate the 'sharing' and re-connecting with friends that this season brings. The end of the Western calendar year and several religious holidays allow people of all persuasions to mark a new beginning and to reflect on what is important to them.

Because I spent my first 20 years or so as part of the basic Christian tradition, I have retained great affection for many aspects of the spirit of the season, even as I gradually grew away from specific beliefs.

This is a time for pausing and reflecting..... and hoping that peace & understanding WILL grow, no matter our differences.

I judge it to be fully consistent with my Jewish atheist principles to wish people, and to be wished, and to have, a Merry Christmas.
