Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 27 Dec 09 - 06:11 AM Do you remember entering? No...... :-) Definitely a scam. Do NOT reply. You could try and onforward it to some authority that deals with these scams - varies on what country you are in, or just delete it - that's the safest way... :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: artbrooks Date: 27 Dec 09 - 07:05 AM Clearly a scam, of course. It didn't originate in the US - we don't have 'postcodes'...ours are called 'zipcodes'. |
Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: John MacKenzie Date: 27 Dec 09 - 07:16 AM And we don't have states |
Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: MGM·Lion Date: 27 Dec 09 - 07:53 AM I have of course not replied & have deleted. Entry, rather cleverly, not an issue here as they claim it is my e-address that has won — though whence they will have scanned that, who knows? These people have their ways... |
Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: GUEST,Rapaire Date: 27 Dec 09 - 08:20 AM I'd enter if I were you. You could become rich and wealthy and all. Of course, if I were me I'd just delete the damned thing. |
Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: MGM·Lion Date: 27 Dec 09 - 08:33 AM I already have Rapaire - deleted, that is, not entered, as I am me, not you [or is it the other way round? You are confusing me!] Woe, alas - now I suppose I shall never become rich and wealthy and all. |
Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: Alice Date: 27 Dec 09 - 11:42 AM Most of us get several scam emails like that a day, and have for years. I wonder why you were so lucky to not be spammed with these before! Have you ever read the Nigerian scam threads? Type "Nigerian" in the filter box and set to "All". |

Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: Jim Dixon Date: 27 Dec 09 - 12:03 PM I suppose if you wanted to design a generic address format that would work for all countries, it could reasonably use the terms city, state, and postcode. I believe Zip Code is unique to the United States, but postcode is an accepted international term. I think most Americans could figure out that postcode is equivalent to Zip Code. At least they both have the word "code" in them. The USA, Australia, and India have states. Canada has provinces. Britain and Ireland have counties. All these serve the same purpose as far as mailing addresses are concerned, but I don't know any generic term that means "state, province, or county." State is probably as good a term as any. Of course all this has nothing to do with whether the message is a scam or not. (I think it is.) But if you're trying to figure out what country the message came from, it really doesn't give you much of a clue. |
Subject: RE: BS: scam? From: JohnInKansas Date: 27 Dec 09 - 12:48 PM Except that in the USA a couple of the "states" insist that they are not states, but are "Commonwealths." And most states in the USA are also divided into counties - except for a couple where the divisions are "parishes" instead of counties. And while most of the "states" conform (loosely?) to "English common law" at least one subscribes to Napoleonic common law. But "aliases" are commonly used - with little confusion (for mailing purposes). John |
