This happens frequently. I type a lengthy post...or a short post...whatever...and I hit "submit". It does its thing (supposedly).

I then check the thread title list to see if it "took", and I discover that it did not, because the thread I just submitted the post to is not anywhere near the top of the list.

Arrgh!!!

I use the "back" button, and recover the page where my post is waiting to be submitted. I submit it again.

I glare at the screen in frustation and mutter more curses. WTF is going on at Mudcat Central? Is some sadistic moderator with a grudge against me blocking my post or is the Mudcat program just basically f**ked?

I use the "back" button one more time, and recover the page where my post is still waiting to be submitted.

I block and copy and save the post to my buffer. Ha! This time I've got you, you bastards! I return to the main board. I once again open the thread where I wanted to make the post. I go to the bottom and past the post into the box and SUBMIT!!!

And it goes through at last....as is confirmed by checking the thread one more time.

And I have just wasted another 10 or 15 minutes of my life on something that doesn't matter a hang anyway! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! (laughing insanely and dancing wildly around the room as the Dachshund gazes at me with a puzzled and slightly annoyed look...I have disturbed his peaceful contemplations.)

Anyone else been having this problem? (aside from the Dachshund, I mean)

I have had the problem at times;usually it's either a temporary thing with my workstation or local ISP. If it's the mudcat, you will notice NOTHING is getting posted, which is rarely the case.

for the 17th..(approximately) time. When this happens **RELOAD** Mudcat in your browser....not 'refresh' within Mudcat

This puts a new copy in your cache.

In my Opera browser, the post remains when I go 'back', but in other browsers sometimes, it is best to do a 'copy' of the post before re-submitting it.

The first thing to do is hit simultaneously   CTRL - Z

this will undo.

the back button can get you in trouble after awhile.

I know what you mean. I hit the back button one time too many on one occasion and to my horror I found myself back in a relationship with an ex-girlfriend whom I had spent years disentangling myself from! It took me 3 months to escape back to the present.

For long posts, I copy the text. Sometimes, I open a word processor and type there, copy and paste it here.

LH, if the post will not submit, I suggest you change your approach. I'm not sure what sort of posts you want to submit to your perverted desires (cedar? metal fence?) but obviously you need professional help. If you have been forcing posts to submit I suggest that you first get a thorough medical checkup (arboreal warts and creosote poisoning are nothing to mess with) and then turn yourself in to the police. They can get you help

In any case, good luck with your problem.

My dog has been forcing fence posts to submit to his unsavoury attentions for years. The only way to stop him, I think, would be to electrify the post...but I'm not cruel enough to do that.

It happens to me too. I have learned to shorten the process. If it doesn't go through the second time, I copy it (I don't save it) and go back and reopen the thread. Then I paste it in. It has never not gone through that way.

Happens regularly to me. I believe Joe 'has it in for me,' Which does NOT mean the same thing throughout the world. Not that I'm paranoid or anything, of course!

Tongue in the other cheek, I've found long posts are better written in 'Word' and copy-and-posted. Not so committed.

I think the problem may be with using the 'Back' option. This will take you back to the list of threads as it was when you last looked at it. It should not be updated with later posts.
Instead scroll to the top of the page & click either 'Refresh' or 'Lyrics & Knowledge'. Either of these will re-create the thread list for you, complete with any updates.
Using the back button & not seeing your own posts is one of the reason some people manage to post the same comment several times!

"Lengthy" is your clue. I suspect there is a time-out function going on. Or the snoopers at MI5/6 or CIA/FBI (and they exist) have singled you out. Open forums are a good way to anomymise yourself a bit. And at internet cafes or libraries even moreso.

In the UK it is law that all e-mails "To" and "From" data are stroed indefinitely. And heaven knows what else has to be snooped. In the early days of the implementation I couldn't post or e-mail without the system locking-up if I used trigger words like surveilance or bomb.

What I do now is to cntrl A cntrl C before submitting (often). And re-enter (never back) to get it posted.

OK snoopers chew on this then: Guns. Semtext. Nitro-glycerine. 911.

No, not necessarily! That was my point. It 'might', depending on your settings as to size of cache and when to update it, but it really, really does depend on what cached version of the forum your browser has. It is possible to click 'refresh' and get new posts, but still not clear whatever is preventing you from posting. I fought this several times.
*RELOAD* tells your browser to put a fresh version of the threads in the cache. Honest...would I mislead you? ☺
