Subject: BS: Latest Internet Scamola... From: Bobert Date: 29 Dec 09 - 07:41 PM Okay, here's the way it works... You put something for sale/lease on the innernet, like on Craigslist and then... ...you get someone who says they will buy it or rent it ot whatever and wants to send you a "cashiers check" for way more than whatever it is with the stipulation that... ...when you recieve the check that you forward a portion to a shipper 'er whatever... Problem is that the "cashier's check " is worthless but that check you just mailed to "X" probably, unless you don't have money to cover it, isn't and... ...you are out the amount you sent to the supposed shipper or whatever... Nice little variation of the Nigerian scam, don'tcha think??? BTW, the cashiers check will come Fed Ex and look like the real deal... But it isn't... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Latest Internet Scamola... From: pdq Date: 29 Dec 09 - 07:52 PM Not exactly new. I had a guy offer to buy a car if I sent it to England. He would arrainge shipping which was claimed to be about $4500 US. I knew the offer was because of warnings posted on craigslist. I played along and received a letter with $5500 dollars worth of Postal Money Orders. I took one to the post office and had the lady run it through the machine. I was kicked out over and over again Some of the bogus MOs art was pretty bad. Actually, two cachiers and I debated whether the watermark picture of Ben Franklin looked more like The Grim Reaper or The Zig Zag Man. |

Subject: RE: BS: Latest Internet Scamola... From: katlaughing Date: 29 Dec 09 - 08:07 PM Happened a couple of years ago when I listed something on Craigslist for my sister. Thank goodness it came to me and I was "on to them." My sister is not internet savvy (different sis from Mudcatter "bet") and would have thought it sounded great. As a friend of mine says, "I'm larnin' 'er." (Trying to get her to write down instructions where she can find them, again.:-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Latest Internet Scamola... From: EBarnacle Date: 29 Dec 09 - 10:15 PM We always respond to those kind offers with: We are pleased to accept cash or have you accompany us to your bank. So far, none of them have taken us up on this approach. |

Subject: RE: BS: Latest Internet Scamola... From: JohnInKansas Date: 29 Dec 09 - 11:54 PM We advertised a couple of small items in a local newspaper and recieved about a dozen-and-a-half almost identical replies just like this - IN 1999. I'd have thought this was too old to be worth a mention; but I guess the recent news has shown that you can still convince a sufficiently John |
