Right folkies
I am now running Win 7 on 2 of my 3 computers, and I like it a lot, BUT.
Firstly on the computer I upgraded I find it unstable, it reverts, and settings that I have changed, return as before when I fire up the next time.
It makes noises I can't seem to find a way of changing.
1 The mouse makes a little popping noise every time I click it, on the upgrade computer.
2 The mouse makes a rumbling noise when I drag objects around, on the computer which has an original version.
I have looked at the sounds management section, and can find no mouse sounds settings at all.
The blue of the thread titles in here is a much paler blue than it was in XP. As my XP computer shares the same monitor as one of my Win 7 computers, I can't just, change the monitor settings.
Anybody else have problems, or hints?

I've seen several reports on "how to supercharge Win7 and make it actually work" but mostly my quick-looks (since I'm not intending a change to use it) looked like mostly ways to have it make more noises and "prettier" (flashing, fading, whirling) lights.

I'll try to take a look at whether I have links to anything useful, but it may take a while.

In earlier versions, mouse clicks and "traces" were in a separate mouse/pointer section of control panel rather than in "sounds" sections, along with speed, acceleration, button swaps, and locator.

A recent PC Magazine "Guide to" has several links to several topics, some of which might be of interest:

Your Guide to Windows 7, 01.06.10 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2357663,00.asp)

Possibly of interest for setup of Win7 (and this page may be at one of the links in the above):

Windows 7 in a Box December 29, 2009 (http://www.appscout.com/2009/12/windows_7_in_a_box_gives_you_d.php)

claims to be a free utility that will translate all the new Win7 stuff to something resembling WinXP so that you can find where to make settings until you learn the new Win7 babytalk.

Maybe of interest:

Make the most of your new PC 12.28.09 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2337550,00.asp)

Purports to give advice on initial setup, Win7, Vista, and/or WinXP.

Fair warning: These are all on a commercial magazine site, PC Magazine from Ziff Davis, with lots of popups and popovers. If you can stand the annoyance factor there may be something useful.

A check of my newsletters from "across the sea" didn't find anything that looked like it would be of real interest to you at present; but I may be able to dig further if you don't find help at the ones above.

I haven't had much interest in Win7 yet, so I'm sorry I can't offer any more direct help.

John

Giok, right-click on the screen (with no programs open) and select "personalize". You can mess with the mouse and sounds there. There is also an option to revert to default if you REALLY mess it up.

The trick is to stay with XP!

I'm getting to know 7 but I'm a bit annoyed that some of my old programs, especiall my mapping stuff, won't work *sigh*

On the plus side, I was using Windows LiveOneCare as a subscription security package, but it doesn't work on 7 so Microsoft have a free downloadable security package called 'microsoft security essentials' which seems to be working OK. They even offered to refund the balance of my subscription *grin*

I always wait a year or two to read about others reactions....thus I avoided WIN95 & Vista. Stayed with 98 until I saw good reports on XP. Now I am leery of WIN7... we shall see.
