Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Donuel Date: 26 Jan 10 - 05:26 PM There are 3 distinct forms of DNA life on Earth. Flora , Fauna and mineral chemical (ocean floor and miles underground, but finding another DNA form or a non-DNA form of life would be interesting. The nano bacterial form (smaller than some viri) is what was thought to be in a neteor from Mars but it does seem to be merely a chemical by product of crystalization. Clinton even made an announcment about it that was pasted in the movie COntact. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: catspaw49 Date: 26 Jan 10 - 09:56 PM I personally like the thought that different amino acids joined together in some other atmosphere somewhere else in the universe. This lifeform might have been around billions of years before us and now has come to visit. But since they are so different, we don't recognize them as a lifeform...........and they don't recognize us. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Stu Date: 27 Jan 10 - 06:44 AM "but finding another DNA form or a non-DNA form of life would be interesting." You might be interested in prions. These are protein chains that can evolve, and behave rather like viruses. I have no idea whether they would be considered alive or not but I suspect that the line between what constitutes a distinct life-form and what doesn't is blurred anyway. Spaw's right - the real trick is going to be recognising life-forms so alien to us they seem inanimate or inorganic. We've got a hell of a long way to go on this yet. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 27 Jan 10 - 09:33 AM I was in the library some years ago, and my eye fell upon a book called "Who Killed Roger Rabbit?" (Later there was a movie by that name, but I don't know how true it was to the book.) The book introduced the idea of 'toons' among us. Toons are cartoon characters that have left the big screen and live among us. Roger Rabbit was a toon, a rich and famous one. Not all tunes look silly. Some look just like humans, but they lack the richness of character and conscience that humans have. I believe George W. Bush is a toon. So is the woman across the street. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Bill D Date: 27 Jan 10 - 09:48 AM "I believe George W. Bush is a toon" It was discovered early It even works in reverse |
Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Little Hawk Date: 27 Jan 10 - 11:19 AM I have studied Bush's photo quite closely, and I see nothing unusual about the size or shape of his ears. They are not larger than average ears, in fact they seem to be fairly small ears, I'd say. They rest close to his head, they don't stick out notably. They are modest ears as ears go. So why have so many political cartoonists drawn him with huge ears that stick way, waaaaay out from his head? Hmmm? Are those cartoonists hallucinating or are they just engaging in some form of wishful projection that satisfies their own destructive desires? I don't say this because I like George Bush. I detest his political stance and record. I say it because I think it is inappropriate and arbitrary for cartoonists to make a big point of exaggerating Bush's ears when there is really nothing unusual about his ears in the first place. He is a bit toon-like, but he doesn't have big ears. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Donuel Date: 27 Jan 10 - 11:51 AM Prions are more like alien bio weapons They eat our brains, give us Alzheimers and leave us unable to see the difference between our loved ones and aliens. Life forms can be so spread out we don't notice. THink of an ant colony where each tiny being acts in concert with the whole. SImilar beings composed of seperate motes of intelligently controlled co oridination but so small, pervasive and spread out that we generally don't notice. Virus for sure, but think of beings a bit larger. Even on a galactic scale... The galaxy itself? no the galaxies are but the connective tissue of one mote... ooooooooooooo cool |
Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Stu Date: 27 Jan 10 - 12:32 PM "Are those cartoonists hallucinating or are they just engaging in some form of wishful projection that satisfies their own destructive desires?" Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Little Hawk Date: 27 Jan 10 - 03:50 PM GfS - They might be looking for something else here. They might just be curious. They might be attempting to increase their knowledge of other planets and star systems. They might be looking for a way to quarantine us in order to protect the rest of the solar system FROM us. Any number of possibilities, I would think. The only way you could know for sure is: ask them. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Donuel Date: 27 Jan 10 - 05:48 PM I assume aliens are around here from time to time. THese aliens are not bound by our 3D limitaions of mono directional time. They have seen our growth, discoveries and eventual total destruction, which makes thier tour buses in time a real money maker. Some of the UFOS merely measure certain cities for visual reproduction elsewhere. Perhaps Earth makes a nice soundstage for thier entertainment. They don't need close encounters of the 3rd kind when they can recreate virtual encounters in any time or space. With that kind of technology I WOULD DEARLY LOVE to go back and kidnap Ludwig Von Beethoven and bring him here, clip a Sansa Clip mp3 player on him put earphones in his ears and crank up his 9th symphony! WHOA the look on his face. Precious. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: An Buachaill Caol Dubh Date: 29 Jan 10 - 09:02 AM I remember the Clinton quotation referred to by Donuel. I heard and saw it on Television one early morning after a night spent in company during which copious quantities of various drinks &c were consumed, and I had walked home rather unsteadily and with a mind that wandered rather more than my feet. So, when I heard none other than the President of the USA chatting about alien life being discovered, I thought either I was REALLY away with it or the War of the Worlds was kicking off (and I wasn't sober enough to keep awake). But, in case I had imagined the whole thing, just to remind myself in the morning of what one can imagine, I scrawled it down on a sheet of paper. Don't know, now, whether I were relieved or disappointed to discover the truth. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scientist says alien life is on Earth From: Little Hawk Date: 29 Jan 10 - 12:20 PM As far as I'm concerned, I AM living in an alien culture right now! Or does that make me the alien?
