Anyway is there better things to do on a Sunday rather then editing and uploading utoob videos?

Do not worry about being a novice and fumbling mess.
I was a novice and fumbling mess once,
Now I just a mess fumbling?

Seriously
This a good session with good songs good singers and musicians of all levels.
with good but rare witty non offensive out bursts.

Even if I say so my self I think I have improved and got bolder simply by attending this and other session throughout summer and the year.
Regards Pierre.

"The only downer is coming from Herne Bay involves driving and hence no drinking!!"

I'm sorry for the slight thread drift, but if you come to The Good Intent sessions in Rochester (1st. and 3rd. Tuesdays), morning wood, you can do as much drinking as you like and get the train back from Rochester to Herne Bay, departing at 23.09 or 00.09!

Chugalug, chugalug!

Richard - Thanks for the info and all noted.

Al - Yes I'm aware of all those but not visited any of them yet but plan on doing so.
I'm a bedroom strummer of a few years on and off and just recently decided to get involved. It then dawned on me that I don't actually know much if anything in its entirety, so I'm sorting that out. I'm no singer either, but hey-ho it's folk so I'll give it a go.
So as far as performing goes I'm a total novice and judging by how I end up as a fumbling mess playing for family/friends etc it'll be interesting!!

Paul.

Will look forward to them VT. I try and keep an eye on the Lower Coke (Stoke) threads morning wood so will most likely have no problem arranging. Do you do Whitstable Folk club singaround, last Friday in the month (not advertised on website)? And not fotgetting Faversham FC singers nights every wednesday that there is no 'turn' booked. Both same conditions that Richard outlined under. I'm looking forward to getting back to all of em. Oh yes Deal also on Fridays.

Morningwood - Essentials - no amplification unless you are a keyboard player or have a genuinely otherwise inaudible instrument, and even then keep it below the level of a solo voice. A liking for folk and folk-ish song and music. Consideration for others, particularly performing children and locals and novices all of whom are to be encouraged.

Advantages - own tankard and liking for beer, tolerances for local barflies who have not really got the etiquette right, please don't expect others not to join in unless you have a very good reason, sense of humour helpful, performance ability as far as possible, and we happily have a fair amount of 1954 definition folk sometimes twisted almost out of recognition and sometimes done very retrospectively, so likening that is good although we also have contemporary folk-style and even ARSS.

OK, after much blandishment, and Paddy and the landlord Peter both having bribed me with alcohol, and having taken due account of the risk of re-appearing on the 'cat, here is the eagerly awaited announcement of the Lower Coke (Upper Dogsbotham) winter sings, on the ground that no-one else appears to be doing anything competitive. Folkies do not compete, they co-exist. It is the music of the people.

Right. Here is the plan.

From opening time until closing time or earlier surrender to darts matches, darts competitions for the Sunday joint (meat, what else might I have meant?) foolsball on the square eyed God - usually till about 6-ish or 7-ish on the following Sundays: -

Jan 31
Feb 28
Mar 21.
Ok so I thought there'd been one in December, but I was right about January. So we missed two, but plan to be at the third. We drink only P.G. Tips - honest!

What's in that tea you leopards drink?

First was Jan 28, second Feb 28. How can you have missed three?

Last (unless I schedule another) this year will be Mar 21 (not 28), hope to see you astound the locals then.

We had a slightly smaller crowd this time, but some may have been put off by the weather - a number of local roads were flooded but (hooray) not my house this time. Yet. Alan flooded his ignition between Val's house and mine. Don said the bus had to go through puddles 8 inches deep. The lower stretch of the old Grain Road was reported not safe for low-slung cars. The shop next door to my house put out sandbags (and then took them in again presumably in case they were stolen).

There were plenty of combined effort roast spuds (I peeled and parboiled, Big Mary roasted in pub oven) and lots of other nibbly things, and some fine high spots. I particularly enjoyed a couple of Alan and Linda's things, and "The Bold Fisherman" rang off in true "revival traditional" style, in the time signature of "one", unaccompanied and with weapons of mass harmonisation.

Big Mary demanded "Ride On" (double entendre not intended) and got it in the Barden version. No Worries were skillful and their World War 1 segue was much appreciated by local Roland whose father who enlisted in WW1 under a false name and under age had just died. Roland also sang "Shoe-Shine-Sally", a mildly smutty army song, to assembled glee. The Hotel Torremolinos went down with its usual verve and subtlety to the glee of the locals. Clive who used to have an Ovation copy but now plays an Encore produced a fine piece in open G that was much liked. Annie wound me up as usual with songs of Irish pride and a mischievous grin. VT was well on song and produced inter alia a trad or tradalike (I don't know which) that was new to me and a number of verses of which had strong similarities to the words of "The False Bride" which I do to the tune of "I once loved a lass". CS was as vocally stunning as usual and got pretty well everyone going with Alison Grimes. Chris the local ventured into DADGAD and may put new strings on for next time. Naughty 40 was well received. Sheppey Paul managed to get a seat where he could watch the (silent) football on the square eyed god and still sing and play. Don raised the usual laughs and all liked his serious song using (with Les's permission) the words of Les Barker.

I was delighted to be asked to do a long one, in the early stages before all had arrived, and the Steeleye (or is it Fairport) version of Matty Groves stretched into a choogling almost funk massed band effort complete with improvised words in places due to a conflict between the Amber Ale and rationality.

Alas by 5 pm the background noise from those watching the silent foolsball had become too loud for us to continue, so we retired for squidge, but all in all, a pretty good 5 hours.

Well.. at least we missed all that stormy weather. Nothing too terrible in Grays, just the usual contiguous showers! Our Secretary, Liz, told me that the Treasurer was ill and hadn't done her finance report, so could we postpone the meeting til next Sunday. I was more than a little miffed. "We could have gone to a do in Kent... gave it up especially for meeting...missed first one... ill... second one... too knackered from Johnny Collins Day... missed third....Grrrr.... we're having the meeting!!!!!" Liz agreed with me that we can't keep putting it off. Put paw down with a firm thud! See you next month?

It's nearly a pachadi. Or to be simpler you can call it a hot pepper sauce.

A cup or two of chillis (of the violence that you prefer), a cup or so of red wine vinegar (or if you want it less sour, red wine), a lump of garlic (that's a whole lump, as it grows, not one sort of finger from the lump - the recipe says not peeled but I prefer to peel)

Put in food processor and smash like fury until smooth, almost like peanut butter but quite a bit runnier. It needs to be runny enough not to stick to the bottom of the saucepan. I turned the processor on flat out and went and did something else for nearly half an hour.

Put in small saucepan, bring to boil and simmer briskly for an hour or more, stirring and adding more wine/wine vinegar as necessary.

If you have lumpiness or significant texture, try to rub through a food sieve, or put through a food mill.

Return to saucepan, add sugar or honey to taste (tasting it is tricky as if you are too liberal with the size of taste you will paralyse your taste buds). You are aiming for a balance between the chilli heat, the vinegar sour, and the honey/sugar sweet. Simmer slowly until slight thickening is seen. Allow to cool a bit, put in clean empty jamjar (with lid) and refrigerate. It's supposed to keep for months in the fridge without freezing.
