Briege Murphy and Rosemary Woods are both singer-songwriters from northern Ireland. I'd be interested in lyrics for any of their songs.

From: GUEST,Philippa

Can anybody supply lyrics and maybe abc/chords for Guardian Angel by Rosemary Woods. It's about trying to help a woman who is in an unsatisfactory relationship and drowning her sorrows.
I have tow albums of Rosemary Woods (also recorded at Colum Sands' studio) but this song isn't on the recordings. Has it been recorded?

Well isn't this a coincidence! I've been singing Briege Murphy's song "Clohinne Winds" (made popular by Niamh Parsons) all day on HearMe! It's a spooky song, that's why I been playing it on the Halloween HearMe. You can get the lyrics here (click).

Briege Murphy has two CDs out currently:<
``The Longest Road´´which came out in 1995
and ``The Sea and Other Songs´´from 1997.
I've heard on the grape vine that there's another Cd on the way!!
I was asked to play guitar for Briege when she visited our ``OSLO IRISH MUSIC FESTIVAL´´last year.(Take a look at our webb site!!)
Greetings John.

Thanks Alison, but Rosemary does come to Derry now and again; the Foyle Folk Club organisers know her too.

Philippa - Rosemary Woods comes from my hometown (Portaferry). I imagine that given it's such a small place it would be easy enough to get the info you need. I'll do a bit of querying and see what I can come up with - I'm not there any more but my family is, and I'll ask them.

Rosemary recently provided backing vocals on Richard Gilpin's excellent album "Beautiful Mistake".

Find out more about the album at www.richardgilpin.com.

The album is reviewed in my website, Pay The Reckoning ... follow this link to the title page and this one to go directly to the reviews section.

From: GUEST,Philippa

I just heard a song by Briege Murphy against the nuclear reprocessing plant Sellafield / Windscale. Song title, "Aoife's Song" (Aoife is the name of Briege's teenage daughter). The words were very easy to make out, but I only heard it once on radio and I don't have a recording.

Briege Murphy has her own Website, with recording samples here (click).
Click here for the Waterbug page on Rosemary Woods, but prepare to be unimpressed. They did a much better job on Art Thieme.

second line; As I (C) lay down (D) to rest (Em)

   and ,chorus,1st line ;

          (C) Cloghinne winds were (D)blowing when you (A) called me

sounds best in dropped -D !! Try it !!

I suddenly thought of Rosemary Woods today, wondering what happened to her.
I'm just after doing a web search and I see a death notice for a Rosemary Woods from Portaferry, who died last autumn. There's also a 2015 mention of her extolling the complementary therapy services for cancer patients in Portaferry. Is this, alas, the same Rosemary Woods the singer; dying after a long illness?

unfortunately, Rosemary Woods died of cancer in Sept. 2019. She had dealt with the illness for several years; as long ago as May 2013 she featured on Colm Sands folk programme on Radio Ulster about how music and friends helped her deal with illness. But I had not heard any of this until I started looking for info of Rosemary on the internet a few days ago.
