I have just PMd Crow and have said that it was nothing personal to her, how my previous post might have come across.

It's just that we ALL feel passionate about our singing and playing.

There is a time for being sociable, and a time for when the reel point of what we do and how we do it really opens up.

We respect each other's efforts and talents/abilities/nerve and newbies just need to be "shown the way and nurtured or shown the door".

Peace and tolerance to all ok.

Kev

For those not in attendance, I acted out swinging a hammer during performance of Water Boy. Not that I was swinging the singing stick quite comically / dramatically in the direction of and behind the back of the offending chatter, was purely coincidental. It had no effect on the chatterers, because they could not see, and evidently could not hear me singing (if that is possible), but it did amuse the rest of the crowd, I suppose.

"It is a social event afterall."

Sure!

I was responding to those who have spoken about talkative guests, and just remembered there was a heated argument over some people chatting last year after a bloke told them to shut-up, and it all fell apart.

Confrontation like demanding that people are quiet, makes *everyone* feel crap, but *humour* when people are chatting - like Tam with the stick - is all good fun.

Sorry if it came out like I was 'pointing fingers'. Wasn't meant to be nasty or offensive.

Crow Sister - group from last year were friends of mine. They made no more noise "chatting" than anybody else around the circle between 8 to 9.30. The protentious prick who got the arse was suitably repremanded by many, including many of our "gods of knockholt" (and I say that as a HUGE complement to them) and he has since been barred!

It is a social event afterall. The serious singing and playing starts later, and it is at this time, I agree, that people should be more respectful. I was appalled that we had to DEMAND a little quiet whilst poor Frank was trying to take his turn on Friday night, when a few girlies tried to start something up five performers BACK in the circle! THAT is what should be being comment on, not invited guests from last year, who were talking WITH regulars at a sensible time last year!

We try to encourage new comers into the folk world. They are told "the rules" but some of "Us" can be bloody rude as well!

ANY of us can be pissed and loud, but gentle control is far better than a blanket "rude outsiders"!

We are not trying to replicate a pub "folkie session". We are a group of like minded people, camping in a field, often in poxy weather and often pissed!

Guests need to be "educted" whilst some regulars need to be gently "reminded".

No need for finger pointing - that is TOO MUCH like being at work!

We are there because we a like minded people!!

Kev

sod the Ramblers' there entitled to think what they like
The good thing is that we have a very good will with the Tally Ho ? and farmer

The local people welcome us because we are behaved and cause no trouble and bring some income to the local drinking hole.
Clearly these people wouldn't know the difference between a bunch of Hippies and a herd of Hippo ?

The main points about this Knockholt gone are

1/ if people want to put up a Marquee let them get on with it? especially if the person who is against us putting up the Marquee is unable to do so himself but uses nonsense in order to make a point.

2/ do not invite people outside the folkmob without telling people prior. and use common sense in regards to who you invite. When people ask me at work about Knockers I tell them straight it is a private 4 day function.

Because at the end of the day having done functions for twenty odd years down Chislehurst Caves it will be a never seen prior or again after invited drunken silly arse who will ruin the event and they wont give a flying toss. and the folk who invite them will deny all responsibility on there behalf.
Mark my words?

Kind regards to all Pierre looking forward to a great September.

I think non-folkies simply don't realise they're being inconsiderate, to them it's just a bonfire party. Last June there was a group of guests who chattered loudly through everyone until there was an umm 'incident' where some chap kinda rudely told them to shut-up, and then that sparked an argument! I liked Tam's silly approach with the stick best. No-one gets upset by humour. But I don't think it was actually noticed by the chatterbox though!

Good that nothing more serious than that described above happened. We will probably never find out just who did invite the intruders, and it was probably none of us. We are easily spotted (no pun intended) from the road, and (this will start a palaver) we have a very visible presence at the pub.The locals will welcome our financial input, but they are going to ask why we are there. (Bloody hippies.)
As regards some sort of a fire guard, the chicken wire thing sounds good, but will it cool down by morning ? If it is easily dismantled, and cool...great. Why don't we just stop them from sitting in the way to start with ? If we all yell at them at once, then they move, or get deafened.

Who nearly fell in the fire, was it the chattering chap in the posh shades?

Anyway, many thanks for letting this gatecrasher attend again, had an excellent weekend. My thanks to those who do all the hard work!
Managed to miss Friday night due to umm pretty much sleeping my way through the entire session, but made up for it on Saturday night with the dregs of the party till morning (shout out to Jim Radcliffe & Birthday Joy & 'Improv Guy') and about 15mins (by drunken time) after I wombled to bed, we were off home! Next time it'll be a late night Friday and a sensible bedtime on Saturday (which means poor aunty VTam will prolly be dragging me off to bed by my earole') instead...

Bummer about RB's tagine! I've yet to try this famous knockholt delicacy! Hopfully next time...

No accident happened at all Sue a shove in the mid back sent the person concerned in a safer direction. '
Has fore talking Sue these three people were so inebriated prior to getting on the field early Saturday night that they wont remember anything about being there let alone the shove in the back.
but guests of folkmob are inviting people . Without gaining permission to do this .

The three people were completely inebriated prior to there arrival.
+ they caused Lord knows what in there wake.
They are a damn nuisance to both singer and player and rather loud and argumentative among themselves keeping others awake in the silent hours..

Clearly folk know who these people are and should show consideration in regards to inviting them at all knowing how they are? and will behave/

Thats all there is to it?

A perimeter can be easily maintained with a half or third height roll of chicken wire on stakes. Way I was feeling about a certain inconsiderate crew, barbed wire seems a pretty good option. I noticed they didn't chatter when their mate was singing. Which I'd like to say his ad libbed songs were very interesting and quite fun.

This wire perimeter set up would provide a dedicated unblockable access to the fire for marshall(s) adding logs and tending as well as cooking access to embers throughout daylight hours. Afterwards the wire is easily rolled up and stored for future use.

Just a thought or 2.

BTW - my feet are still cold. Think I might rig up a flat covered pan for putting embers in and placing under my feet. Oh what a dolt. Next time I bring foot warmers.

The Fire.
Thanks to Richard Bridge for cutting the logs to a manageable size.

A Fire officers & High Vis Jackets
I put it too the Fire Officer
chucking logs on the fire and smothering folks in sparks makes me wonder
If any of the above makes any sense?

I agree though that a roped off section around the Fire should be introduced.
Despite the fact I like to sit near the fire and play and in turn set me trainers alight
if a more severe accident happened 'it could finish the event altogether.

This could be removed during the day so folk could sit around but after a near miss in regards to a severely drunken visitor by near falling into the embers I fear this should be considered fore the future. in regards to a roaring Bonfire at night.
Pierre.

Pierre, I totally agree with you. I thought that the marquee was never gonna get erected. As it was, it only just got up in time for the feast. Lovely grub, thanks to all concerned. I agree that more use could have been made of the marquee. I was very confused, as one minute, we were told that there'd be another feast in there on Saturday, then it seemed to be by invite only in Val's tent. We would have happily brought something, though resources were meagre, by then.
We could have helped Richard out with his tagine. There were certainly fewer people this year. It was way too cold, and although we ventured across to the bonfire on Saturday night, it was too cold to stay beyond one song. There were several inconsiderate strangers hogging the fire.
I heard that JB was blue with cold. I went to bed fully clothed, and had to get up and get my furry hat to put on. I've experienced warmer winters! Thanks Mick and Sue. Hope September is warmer.

"Marque Fiasco"
My self and two others set about putting the Marquee up on Wednesday but was dissuaded from doing so by a folk mob commitee member
" on the basis that we should wait until " Mick Forde" arrived on the Knockholt field?

I myself have never heard such cobblers in all me life but not wishing to have a confrontation about using our initiatives we went back and sat by the fire.
When I spoke to Mick Forde he was has bewildered has we were''

I have asked the folkmob committee through Pauline too sort out this nonsense at their next meeting

We could have had that Marquee up and forgotten about on the Wednesday.
We dont want credit fore it we just wanted to get the bloody thing up so we woulod not be called to do so later.
Has of course we all were?

There are a lot of people on the knockholt field who will tell you themselves they are unable to help with the ERRECTION....of the marquee.
Which is fair enough?
But if there are 3 folk who are able to put the Marque up fore Christs Sakes let them go ahead and get on with it?.
Ok
This year The Marque came down very quickly due to a grand show of helping hands
Not much use of the Marque was made this year which I though was strange due to the changeable weather we were having.
Indeed having a new front to the Marque would have made excellent shelter for the very cold Saturday night?
If we had crammed in there body heat would have warmed it up .

Regards Pierre

Great weekend as usual. Some lovely singing and playing on Friday night! Great social session in the pub on Saturday afternoon. Wonderful food from Val, Hoff, Tam, Linda et al.

Sorry for not comming out to play last night but it was just too bloody cold! I rarely feel the cold, so it must have been unusual. However, a VERY pleasant chin wag in Starship Gundulf's living room with John and Jan, Royston, Frank and a few others.

Well done to Sue and Mick and all who "did bits" to keep the weekend running!

HUGE thanks to Vall again for driving me AGAIN as she has for the last nine months. She is brilliant and I owe her BIG TIME! Licence is valid again on 21st July, so you will be seeing a completly DRY KtC at events when I am drving! That will be LOTS (see above!).

September will be MUCH better - I predict an Indian Summer!

If Val and I don't see you at the Good Intent next weekend, then we'll see you in SIIIIIDDDDDMMOOOUUUTTTTH ! (notice the use of the exclamation mark to highlight that we are looking forward to it ;-))       )

Best wishes to one and all

Wish I'd take more time to just spend nattering with people. I faffed about in the caravan too much and kept making myself exhausted.
