Subject: BS: What kind of bird makes this sound? From: Cool Beans Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:03 AM I know many Catters are also birders. This morning I heard a new bird call in my backyard. It sounded like: Right cheer, right-right, right-right-right-right-right-right. With variations on the number of rights, but it always began with Right cheer. Anyone recognize it? |

Subject: RE: BS: What kind of bird makes this sound? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:55 AM Sounds like a cardinal to me. Go to this page http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Cardinal/id and click on 'Typical Voice' then click the arrow to play. Cardinal songs vary quite a bit; they can be quite the composer, but the recording gives you a sense of their pitch and timbre. |

Subject: RE: BS: What kind of bird makes this sound? From: GUEST,TIA Date: 28 Apr 10 - 11:05 AM I always think fo a cardinal as Judy-Judy-Judy. Is it melodious, percussive, buzzing? A little on the timbre would help a lot. |

Subject: RE: BS: What kind of bird makes this sound? From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 28 Apr 10 - 04:17 PM Let's see if anyone can identify this one. I heard, from one tree, to my right: CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr, and continuing quietly, (chur chur chur) CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr (chur chur chur) then silence, and from another tree to my left: CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr (chur chur chur) CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr CHEEE-uhr (chur chur chur) Then the first one, and then the second again, ad nauseam. Anyone? Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: BS: What kind of bird makes this sound? From: Arnie Date: 29 Apr 10 - 06:25 AM Uncle Dave O - yours sounds like a greenfinch. They can be quite chirpy but also make what is described as a 'wheezing' sound, which could be the chur-chur-chur sound you describe so well. I know my UK birds but can't help out on the N.American ones! |
