Subject: Lyr Add: THE WIDOW'S WALK^^
From: Big Mick

Per a request from Blessings Barbara, I am copying this here from a posting I did earlier at The Mudcat Campfire

The Widow's Walk by Brendan Nolan

She stood by the window,
as the waves crashed the shore,
To watch him come home,
as he had times before.

CHORUS:

Oh, carry him home to me,
Break the sea down for him,
Carry my love home to me.

It's late in the year,
and the storm winds awaken,
To the hardiest of sailors,
the sea does not beckon

CHORUS

At their shady cove moorings,
the small boats rock gently,
Safe from the sea winds,
till the new season's plenty

CHORUS

This room is my refuge
from the toils of the day,
It's here I find peace,
and it's here I can pray, that you'll

CHORUS

If the sea take my love,
to his grave in the ocean,
God make me a silkie,
that I might lie with him................
^^

Thanks, Mick, that was gorgeous when you sang it, tho I liked the others too, like Dublin in the rare ould days, and the wee babby Moses, and...
Can you post a tune for folks like me who don't remember them in one hearing? I remember it was beautiful, and that the chorus didn't resolve, but that's not enough to sing it...
Blessings,
Barbara

I have sent THE FAIR ONE a sound file and asked her to do a MIDI of it for us. This gentleman has written a number of great tunes and from time to time I will post more of them.

All the best,

Mick

Hi,

Thanks to Big Mick sending me a recording through the computer using Mediaring... here is the tune...

I am not 100% sure how accurate it is... it was a bit distorted and in the chorus there was a harmony going which I had to try to work around... hope I got most of it right though....

Bless you, Alison!

While there are many who will quibble over a note, I'm happy if I can get even an inkling of the tune. By the time I get through with singing one, it rarely resembles the original anyway, so a rough approximation is allright.

As John in Brisbane said sometime last night, the contirbutions of many to this forum and databse are great, but I believe you stand out amongst them!
