Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele on Friday declared his opposition to the Afghanistan war, saying the nine-year-old conflict was of President "Obama's choosing...".

Revisionist history is gratifying, no doubt. Even though a couple of Republicans have already called for Steele to step down from his position, it will not surprise me if others pick up the mantle and agree, straight-faced, that yes, it was Obama all along.

Obviously Obama didn't send the troops into Afghanistan, GWB did. However, he had full support of the congress when doing so. I don't believe any of my liberal friends can refute that during his campaign for the White House, Obama on more than one occasion referred to the war in Afghanstan as the war that must be won.

Michael Steele has been a disappointment. I don't know if he fully understoon what the Chairman's job is. He is too publicity prone and his latest gaffe is not the only one. I will not be surprised if he were to resign in the near future.

You say, with the full consent of the Congress, Doug- Here is what the Congress agreed to: "authorizing the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for the attacks on September 11, 2001 . The authorization granted the President the authority to use all "necessary and appropriate force" against those whom he determined "planned, authorized, committed or aided" the September 11th attacks, or who harbored said persons or groups.

Like the Iraqis? I think I would probably not speak too glibly of that authorization

It has been so entertaining watching the Republicans, lately. Obama wants a surge in Afghanistan, and all the Republican hawks turn into doves.

There's an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, certainly catastrophic, but suddenly the Repbulicans, who have been known tell us that trees are dangerous, are all concerned for the environment.

I'm waiting to see them all turn pro choice. That's going to be fun.
