Thanks Ed. Nessie is my wife, who vets all my output before anyone else hears it or reads it.

The other day I went shopping and when I got to the till, realising I'd forgotten my wallet, I got all in a tizzy. We do say it in our extended family and I have certainly heard it before. As for the expression being anachronistic, well, it's generational if you like - my generation (I am 57) has been using it and it is this generation I represent; I am not trying to fit into any other era. Expressions like that are often regional, not in their origin but in whether they are favoured or not. I live in the South East, having spent time in the Midlands some 25 years ago.

You're right about "just" on the latch, it is clumsy and I will probably be changing it (I already made some other changes to the lyric mainly for easier scanning). I say "probably" only because it fits the tune/scanning right now; but I'll have a go.

Thanks again. In the next few days, once the tune has bedded in, I'll do a rough recording and post here.

Excellent poem - haven't heard the tune. I don't understand what you mean by Nessie-approved tune though?

A couple of comments (not criticisms, I couldn't write anything half as good):

don't get all in a tizzy is a turn of phrase I've never heard. 'Don't get in a tizzy' or 'I'm all in a tizzy', yes but I've never heard the two combined. Maybe it's just where I live, but it sounds awkward and a little anachronistic to me.

Second one: the door just on the latch. I don't think 'just' works here. The door is either on the latch or it isn't. I think "front door on the latch" would work better.

As I say, no criticism so please don't take my comments the wrong way. All told, I think it's an excellent piece of work

Blimey George! You've just described my life....

(apart from the shoe being on the other foot, garments other than ties being involved)

DOLE
(G.Papavgeris 13th July 2010)

Tomorrow morning let me make my own sandwich
It's not as if I haven't made a sandwich before
I'll pick my own shirt and tie, no need for you to tell me which
So stay in bed, no need to come and kiss me at the door

Tomorrow please don't try to call me, I'll be busy
I've lots to do and really I would not like to be disturbed
And if you call and I'm not there, don't get all in a tizzy
Don't think that something untoward or sinister 's occurred

Tomorrow evening please don't wait at the station
I 'spect I will be far too late, don't know which train I'll catch
The chances are I'll also be too tired for conversation
So leave my dinner covered and the door just on the latch.

Tomorrow night in bed don't worry if I'm screaming
Or if I sit up suddenly, with eyes fixed in a stare
Of late I have been feeling that I'm drowning as I'm dreaming
Perhaps I'll take a blanket to the sofa downstairs.

(ch)
And please don't ask me all the time for how I'm doing
And please don't ask me to explain for I can't speak
And please don't follow me to find where I am going
On Wednesday mornings each and every single week.
