The thing is, at that age the price is due only to the rarity. The wine itself is probably ruined.

okay - the depth, the temperature, the lack of o2 explain a lot. But 230 years in salt water and no salt has filtered through the cork? Cork is not impermeable; especially to dissolved minerals.
