Subject: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 Jul 10 - 07:04 PM I heard an politician from the USA today complaining that US representations about the release of the Lockerbie bomber had been ignored. Just a cotton-picking minute. Crime committed within the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts, sentenced under Scottish law, and sentence mollified under Scottish law. Does he think the whole of the UK, or just Scotland, is a colony of the USA? Don't tell us what to fucking do, all right? |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: jacqui.c Date: 19 Jul 10 - 07:12 PM Of the total of 270 fatalities, 190 were American citizens. - Wickipedia. I guess that, in view of the number of US casualties on the plane, the USA does feel that they should have some say in this matter. |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: Jack Campin Date: 19 Jul 10 - 07:38 PM If Jacqui's reasoning is to be taken as a general principle, how many American politicos and military get extradited to Iraq to stand trial for killing 2 million of their people? |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: jacqui.c Date: 19 Jul 10 - 08:43 PM Just a suggestion as to the thinking of the US government. Actually I wouldn't be adverse to your suggestion Jack. |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: mandotim Date: 20 Jul 10 - 04:43 AM Just heard that our new, spineless Prime Minister has agreed to meet a deputation of US Senators. I look forward to Obama's visit and him being hauled in front of a Select Committee to explain why his country still hasn't caught the 911 bombers who killed so many British citizens, and why the Bin Laden family left the USA so precipitately. Cameron needs to learn a couple of words, and the second one is 'off'. |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Jul 10 - 05:45 AM He's learned the first one. It's just that the second is "you" - which refers to the masses. |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: mandotim Date: 20 Jul 10 - 12:09 PM Guest; Does it matter? It's still a lot, discounts or no. Mass murder doesn't really have degrees once you get past the first hundred or so. As for a 'strong' PM, Leadfingers, for me a strong person is someone who can recognise when they are wrong, admit it openly and do their damndest to put things right. I can't recall us ever having had one of those. |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Jul 10 - 06:42 PM Oh good mudelves, please put this downstairs. Although I am getting more and ore irate at Cameron the lickspittle deciding to have all the government material reviewed so that the US can interfere some more in internal UK politics and decisions. Maybe we should be very scared in case the USA decides that regime change would be a good thing here too. |

Subject: RE: Metaphorical gunboat to Lockerbie From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Jul 10 - 07:05 PM The case agauinst Megrahi was pretty suspect anyway. His release was a way of stopping an appeals process which could very well have overthrown that conviction and opened a can of worms. |
