Subject: Need to be resurrected. From: Bob Schwarer Date: 20 Aug 99 - 07:31 AM Need help. My hard drive died Tuesday. When I got back to Mudville, all my data was (is) gone. Any way to recover this or is it a "start from scratch" proposition? Bob S. |
Subject: RE: Need to be resurrected. From: Allan C. Date: 20 Aug 99 - 07:35 AM Start by resetting your "cookie" which you can access in the quick links at the top, left of this page. If that doesn't put you back in the world, come back for more help. |
Subject: RE: Need to be resurrected. From: Bert Date: 20 Aug 99 - 07:36 AM Give it to harpgirl - she'll make it "get a life" Seriously, in most cases of hard drive demise, all is usually lost. I have heard that there are companies that can recover some of the data but don't know for sure. You could try a web search see if it turns up anything. Bert. |

Subject: RE: Need to be resurrected. From: katlaughing Date: 22 Aug 99 - 04:42 AM Liked that, huh? The other night Rog was talking to my three year old grandnephew who has lived all of his short life in Italy. Rog was teasing him with Italian words, while the little guy's grandma, my sister, bet, was making dinner. Rog: "Do you like antipasto?" Kid: "What?" Rog: "Do you like antipasta? You know, antee-pawstah?" Me: He doesn't know, Rog. He's never met her!" bawda bing bawda boom! |
Subject: RE: Need to be resurrected. From: UCANDO Date: 22 Aug 99 - 12:52 PM NORTON UTILITIES is an indispensible tool for recovering data from HDs and Floppys... a shortcoming is the length of time it takes to become familiar and proficient with it... been there-done that |
Subject: RE: Need to be resurrected. From: bob schwarer Date: 22 Aug 99 - 03:36 PM Losing a hard drive is not all bad. After procrastinating about reformating a drive loaded with unusable, disconnected, unwanted files, it affords the opportunity to start clean. The downside is finding the software for the programs you want to reinstall & the time to do it. The way I load a drive with what turns out to be garbage, I should reformat every 6 mos. or so. Also, the software for reinstalling programs is filed under "misc." Really well organised. Bob S. |
