Subject: BS: King/Sharpton v. Beck/Palin Saturday!!!
From: Bobert
Date: 26 Aug 10 - 08:03 PM

Saturday is gonna be one of those special days in Washington, D.C. with Glen Beck and Sarah Palin leadin' Redneck Nation in their "Restore Honor" at the Lincoln Memorial and Rev. Al Sharpton and the memories of Martin Luther King marching almost 5 miles from Dunbar High School way out in NE Washington D.C. off New York Ave all the way down to the future site of the King Memorial half way between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials just east of the Tidal Basin...

I was so hopin' to attend the 5 mile march but between a very bad left foot and the P-Vine have decided not to go but...

... I'll be there in spirit...

Now for the combatants... One side has multi billion dollar media corpoartion and multi million dollar lobbiest firm behind and the other, ahhhhhh, not much... One side says it didn't know that August 28th is the anniversary of Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech at the very spot that they are are going to have their mutil-billion-dollar-backed-ralley and the other side says, "Well, you shoulda known" and...

...one side is going to have just white participants with a history of bullying people and the other, like Selma, marching in defience...

Yeah, I'll be there in spirit but wonderin' exactly what does...

..."restore honor" actaully mean??? Slavery??? Segregated schools???

I mean, I fully understand what Rev. Sharpton is marching for but am really clueless as to what the loudmouth, borish people want...

(They want their country back, Boberdz...)

Geeze, black people have been here longer than most of them and their ancestors so exactly which country do they want back??? Germany??? Poland??? Ireland??? The Chexc Republic??? Well, all they gotta do is get on the danged airplane to have "their country" back...

End of rant!!!

B~

"one side is going to have just white participants with a history of bullying people"

Like the niece of MLK???

You need to update your bias, Bobert- the Beck rally includes people of all colors and political bent- it is a fundraiser for children of killed Special Forces members.

"The event's website says the rally is to pay tribute to America's military personnel and others "who embody our nation's founding principles of integrity, truth and honor." It also is to promote the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provides scholarships and services to family members of military members.

The website urges citizens to attend and "help us restore the values that founded this great nation."

Bobert, Oh Dear Bobert..Instead of going there to bitch, piss and moan, as for anybody, you might listen and consider the points of the debate, of BOTH sides!! What's the point of being close minded about ANYTHING, and EVERYTHING, that another point of view might present?? Even a broken clock is right..twice a day! Actually, I would think this should be VERY, VERY interesting......but ONLY, if us observing, would have an open mind....instead of being closed off, small minded, opinionated, fragments of a division.
Be neutral, and just listen, and stay objective!... Education is never a waste!

Regards,

GfS

BTW, YOUR statement implies that blacks do NOT want "to pay tribute to America's military personnel and others "who embody our nation's founding principles of integrity, truth and honor." "

Here is a chance to vote (at Sun-Sentinel):

"What do you think?

Who is Glenn Beck "Restoring Honor" for with Saturday's rally in Washington?

    * He is restoring it for all right-thinking Americans who don't like the way this country is headed down the road to socialism.
    * He is restoring it for all right-thinking Americans who think they have lost control and government is too powerful.
    * He is restoring it for all the right-wing loonies who listen to his show and actually believe the drivel that comes out of his mouth.
    * Who is Glenn Beck?"

Let's get real here...

This thing is a corpoarte sponsored circle-jerk for angry white people... The sponsors are out front and center... First and foremost, the multi-billion dollar Rupert Murdock (FOX) syndicate...

Followed by big the big health insurance companies with millions and millions and millions of or insurance premiums being funneled thru Dick Armeys lobbiest firms and out the other end as "Feedom Works"... Oh, doen't that sound American???

The you have the super rich Kock family funneling their Obama hatred thru their bullshit Americans for Prosperity (for whom, pray tell???)...

And then you can't have a pissed off whiter people event without the NRA with it's billions of dollars...

So let's keep at least some grasp of what is going on here...

I mean, all ya' gotta do is follow the money... But let's also look at what this money has bought in addition to the media, which the right allready controls... Well, hundreds of "community organizers" (remember them???) to go ot and knock on doors and find pissed off white people, blow some smoke up their butts and stick them on corporate owned or rented buses to go off to Washington, D.C. to, ahhhhhh, what??? Honor Martin Luther King??? Pas the Cooliad... To "honor" exactly what, folks??? Health insurance compasnies that rip us off??? Rupert Murdock???

This is no more a grassroots organization thanis the US Army... This is all paid for... Evet5 little pissed off white person has a cost figure next to him or her... Billions have been spent by the right wing in the last 2 years in lobbying... This little charade is nothing but lobbying at a different level...

This isn't agrassroots organization... This is what a pissed off corporate America looks like when it has unlimited money to us "community organizing" to rile up very stupid but pissed off people to act as their corporate shills...

That is reality... Even those here who argue the other side know it... Eveyone knows the deal here... Everyone... BB knows the deal... GfS knows the deal... Hey, like we use to say in the 60s, "Your are either part of the problem or part of the solution"... Ya'll know what side of the corporate world ya'll are on... It ain't no secret...'

But, ya'll enjoy yer little circle-jerk 'cause you've paid for it somewhere... Or will down the line...

You see this country use to have phrases like

"WE THE PEOPLE"
that meant everyone ..everyone .. today it is for a certain few or only those who think alike or act alike or are the same color or or or or or ..

Replace "WE THE PEOPLE" with "ME THE PEOPLE" all for one .. as long as the one is ME ...

No wonder we are failing as a nation

Restore what values? You mean religious freedom? Which side of the mosque question does Beck come down on? Let him restore THAT value. You mean honesty? Yeah, when Beck restores that value, Hell will freeze over. How about the right to be left alone from government interference? You mean like wiretapping without a warrant, mousethief? Is that what you mean? Yeah, Beck is against that, I'm just sure.

He's a lying sack of shit and he has nothing whatever to do with "values" except truth values equal to "F".

I don't even know where you came up with that glittering piece of ridiculous. I, myself, would just like to hear both sides...that's all..and reserve judgment, as I think about it afterwords. I'm not even saying one side or the other is right or wrong..BEFORE they open their mouths..JEEZ! However, I'd like to hear them address each others comments and questions. Either side has the opportunity to make a complete ass of themselves, or come out making sense....We'll see.

P.S. I'm not a 'Republican right wing, neo-con', either! That's just something a few of you came up with, instead of logically re-acting to some of my posts....(instead of 'responding'..there IS a difference)

No, GfS... You may not be a "Republican right wing neo-con"... Just sounding like one these days... Exactly what more do we need to hear from Glen "The Big Lie" Beck??? It's kinda like havin' a neighbor who throws his garbage in yer front yard over and over and over... So one day that neighbor lets it be known that you ain't seen nuhin' yet and he invites a bunch of friends over to witness him throwing his garbage in yer front yard... I mean, "Insanity is repeating behavior expecting different results"... You should understand that analogy if indeed you have any level of understanding of yer own "handle), GUEST from "Sanity"...

Now throw in the fact that not only is Beck using sacred grounds to promoote more misunderstanding, more racism, more fearmongering, and more lies to rile up a crowd of epsilons that have been orgainized thru with major anti-Obama corpoarte funding and this, for anyone who actaully believes in civil rights, is like jamming the car in reverse and going back to the days of Jim Crow... That is no exaggeration either... But then again, only people who really deep down inside believe in civil rights can understand that... The civil-rights-faux-believer won't get it, at all... Like a square peg and and round hole... I'm just so sorry that my poor ol' mom, arrested 4 times during her days of pushing for civil rights, has to witness just how far back that the Glen Becks, Sarah Palins and their mindless, crybaby peanut gallery want to take US...

Wish my foot would hold up for the 5 miles march tomorrow or I'd be there... But like I have said, "I'll be there in spirit"...

Anyone who can't see that Glenn Beck holding a rally at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of Rev. Kings historic speech, for the expressed purpose of "restoring the true meaning of the civil rights movement", is the most profound insult to the memory of a fallen leader, to the legacy of civil rights, to the ideal of non-violent activism, has there head firmly planted in ... the sand. Just remember that if your head in the sand which part of you you're showing to the world.

Doctor King would have seen in Senator Byrd the goodness... He would have seen in him a man who had starred down his own demons... In otherwords: a man... Not a child like Beck who only thinks of his own wants and desires and opinions and prejudices... Beck is not a man... He is a spoiled child prone to temper tantrums... Senator Bryd had more moral fiber, more caring and more selflessness in his fingernail clippings than Beck could ever wish for...

Once again... Shame on you GfS, which until you get off yer right winged hobby horse, I will just have to call it like it is and rename you GfinS...

Riding herd on school districts and attitudes like that is like a huge game of "Whack-a-Mole". You think you've got them clued in about illegal discrimination, and next year, it's something else. When the 'community mindset' is determined to favor one group, they will constantly try new ways.

How can you help but HEAR the right wing, GfinS??? They own just about the entire media... So that is a bogus response...

Here's the kind of stuff that isn't going to produce one job but seem to be all the corporate media wants to talk about:

1. 31% of Americans think Obama is a Muslim... Jobs created : Zero

2. We don't want no stenkin' Mosque two blocks from Ground Zero... Jobs created: Zero... Jobs lost: Lots...

3. The 24/7 Beck/Palin Show: Jobs created: Zero

4. The Daily John Beonher Show: Jobs created: Zero

5. The Oil Is all Gone in the Gulf: Jobs created: Zero, Jobs lost: lots...

I mean, lets get real here... The largest problem in the US isn't a mosque, or the propagating of various and sundry Repub lies and side shows::: It's the economy, stupid... Yet, the media harps on how bad it is every night but fails conviently to allow any airtime on the various Obama administration efforts to deal with it... Right now the obstructionist Repubs won't allow a $30B bill into the Senate that will provide laons for small businesses... Yet we get John Boenher every night on the corporate propaganda machine using lies like "job killing" this ot that... Every night... But not one word from the media on the loan legislation... We get John Beonher every night talking about Obama wanting to raise taxes that will burt small business but never any investigative jounranlism on just how many small businessmen make over $250,000 a year???

Ya' see, the corporate media is very much into the sidewhow and subterfuge business these days... Lie loud enough and often enough on the right and it makes the headlines... The truth??? Forget it... Not going there... Does not serve the corporatist agenda!!!

But no GfinS thinks I oughta spend even more time "listening" to the "other side"... Sheet fire, that's all that is being blared at us like a blow torch!!!

As far as I am concerned, this is one of the smartest things I've seen come out to try to make a difference in the spread of faux news by Faux News:

From: James Rucker, ColorOfChange.org
Subject: Glenn Beck vs. Dr. King?

A year ago, Glenn Beck called the president a racist who had a deep-seated hatred for white people.1 In just over a week, he says he will "reclaim"2 the legacy of the civil rights movement by holding his "Restoring Honor" rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.—on the same day and place as Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.3

You can get mad at Beck. You can protest and try to prevent him from stepping on Dr. King's honor for one day. The reality is that the next day—and five days a week from there on out—Beck will be back on Fox News, speaking to millions and spreading hate, lies, and fear, as he does every week.

The real problem is Fox News. Fox News gives Beck his platform, and Fox promotes his events—all despite Beck losing virtually all of his major advertisers in the last year.

Fox's rhetoric is not just divisive; it's dangerous. Last month, a heavily armed man got into a gunfight with police after he was pulled over on his way to kill people at the Tides Foundation4—a non-profit that was little known until Glenn Beck repeatedly demonized it, claiming it to be the center of a great conspiracy.5 Last year, Kansas doctor George Tiller was gunned down while at church6 after Bill O'Reilly called him a Nazi, a "baby killer," and warned of "Judgment Day."7

It's why today we're launching TurnOffFox, and we hope you'll join us. TurnOffFox is the first step in our overall effort to beat back the poison, hate, and division of Fox. We'll get Fox turned off in stores, restaurants, and other public places—places where Fox pulls in new viewers and gains legitimacy. But we need your help.

Click below to declare your household "Fox free" and at the same time call on establishments in your community (and across the country) to follow your lead and turn off Fox. Armed with thousands of signatures, ColorOfChange members will visit businesses in their communities that play Fox, explain how divisive and dangerous it is, and call on them to stop. And we'll give you a FREE Turn Off Fox sticker when you do—it takes just a moment:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=90115&id=22941-8293565-fRameYx&t=2

Some people watch Fox at home because it reflects their view of the world; but there are others who see it on TV in public places and assume that it's legitimate news. Fox News is often on in bars, restaurants, airport lounges, stores—appearing to be real news, while spreading lies and fomenting hate and division.

The goal of Turn Off Fox is to reduce the number of public TVs showing Fox News, while spreading the word about Fox's poison (and how it works) to those who don't know.

Signing up for the campaign is just the first step. We make it easy for you to tell us about businesses playing Fox. If you're willing to talk with them, we'll provide you with straightforward materials that explain why they shouldn't be a party to what Fox is doing. And if there are businesses you know that want to tell the world they would never play Fox, you can help them declare themselves a "Fox-free zone."

As businesses Turn off Fox and stand up as Fox Free, and as we encourage our friends and family to do the same, we'll help make clear, to people across the country, what Fox is about. And we'll reduce their ability to do harm.

Click the link below to join us and our partners at Truthout.com in standing up to Fox, and we'll give you a free TurnOffFox sticker. And then please ask your friends and family to do the same:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=90115&id=22941-8293565-fRameYx&t=3

Thanks and Peace,

And, if they can, the GOP will make damned sure it doesn't get spent, just so they can point more fingers. What they forget is when they point a finger at President Obama, four fingers are pointing back at themselves.

The problem, kat, is that the Dems have adopted Mohammed Ali's "Rope-A-Dope" strategy... If they are going to get any microphone time from the right winged media then they are going to have push 10 times harder than the Repubs for that 30 second clip on the evening news... I mean, think about it... John beohner is one the nesws almost every night blasting away and the Dems aren't pushing hard enought o country his outright lies... That's on the Dems for over-estimating the media...

Yo, GFinS,

Your figures are as bogus as your "both sides" mythology... Where ever you got them they are so far off that it's laughable... Maybe you need a 2nd opinion before making such bogus claims...

Oh my gosh, you are correct!...I read the wrong allotment. @40 was for something else...the total was:

The measures are nominally worth $787 billion. The Act includes federal tax cuts, expansion of unemployment benefits and other social welfare provisions, and domestic spending in education, health care, and infrastructure, including the energy sector. The Act also includes numerous non-economic recovery related items that were either part of longer-term plans (e.g. a study of the effectiveness of medical treatments) or desired by Congress (e.g. a limitation on executive compensation in federally aided banks added by Senator Dodd and Rep. Frank).

No Republicans in the House and only three Republican Senators voted for the bill.[2][3][4] The bill was signed into law on February 17 by President Obama at an economic forum he was hosting in Denver, Colorado.[5]

As of the end of August 2009, 19 percent of the stimulus had been outlaid or gone to American taxpayers or business in the form of tax reductions.[6]

WHICH IS EVEN MORE OF AN EMBARRASSMENT!!!!!!!

SEEING ANY JOBS FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY???????????????????????

Occasionally, I watch Glenn Beck. I always regret it, because I wind up wanting to wring the bastard's neck and he doesn't have one.

Today that baby faced jackass announced that, during the revolutionary war, British troops set fire to American churches, often with the congregation barricaded inside.

It happened in "The Patriot", a Mel Gibson movie, a fun adventure story, that took more than a few liberties with history. It did not really happen.

Beck recently informed viewers that Woodrow Wilson segregated the United States Military. Which is also baloney. He is a veritable cesspool of misinformation. I wish somebody would point out a few of his finer gaffes.

The stimulis wasn't ever intended to be dumped into the economy all at once... That would have been a grave error and wastefull... If you recall the initial monet went to "shovel ready" projects where the prelimanary work had been done (engineering, hearings, permots process, etc) but for which because state and local governments were so burdened there werew no funds available to move forward... That is still the case... The money is still flowing into these projects as they become "shovel ready"...

As for Beck, LadyJean??? Consider the source... He is not, shall we say, an enlightened or well educated man... He makes up alot of stuff because his audience, like him, are also not enlightened or well educated and so rather than present actual, ahhhh, facts, these folks just plus in what ever story (mythology) happpens to dovetail nicely with their narrow world views...

That's about it with Beck, Palin and their loyal followers...

Well, I kinda dreaded my weekly phone call with my mom this morning fir fear that this was going to come up and even at 91 years old her mind is very sharp and she can get really torqued up over stuff... Fortunately, this subject didn't come up tho I know she is completely aware of it... Whew!!! The last time she was arrested was just the other end of the mall in front of the Capitol building... That was a fiesko... Several hundred SCLC, along with Rev. Abernathy were arrested in a Saturday protest and this was back when D.C. wasn't quite as accomodating (not that it is today... Google IMF arrests...) and we didn't get her out until Tuesday morin'...

Speakin' of torqued up, my very Republican dad was beyond torqued up and I'm glad he didn't have a gun 'er he would have shot up D.C. General District Court...

Wish I could be there today... Think I'd wander into Beck's ballgame and piss off a couple of his little mindless follower/worshipers...

Gonna be some interesting news, I'm sure, this evening...

"Who is Glenn Beck "Restoring Honor" for with Saturday's rally in Washington?

    * He is restoring it for all right-thinking Americans who don't like the way this country is headed down the road to socialism.
    * He is restoring it for all right-thinking Americans who think they have lost control and government is too powerful.
    * He is restoring it for all the right-wing loonies who listen to his show and actually believe the drivel that comes out of his mouth.
    * Who is Glenn Beck?"

Glenn Beck is John Galt.

and Atlas shrugged...

Yer right, Strings...

Bring on some good ol' fashioned anarchy... You know, like we saw 5 years today in New Orleans with people scambling thru the littered streets trying to survice another day...

That is Glen Beck's America... That the country that he hasd convinced the Zombie Party that they "want back"...

The saddest part about this is the number of people in this country who have no ability to think for themselves so they relinquish that responsibility to others... In this case, an entertainer... Not someone who understands stuff like, ahhhhhh, public administration... Tell ya' what... Glen Beck is not qualified to be a twon manager of a small rural town... Waht makes him think he can run the entire show??? The man is menatlly ill...

Wow!!

All those people standing around the mall talking about God and Patriotism were really racists. Thanks, Bobert. I never would have known.

All the sound bites I heard were all about gratitude for those who have been in the military. But I guess we can't rely on what they say. We have to look in their hearts for the hatred and narrow-mindedness that lurks there.

We sure do live in a mean and ignorant country, I guess. And my neighbors seem so nice. I've been a fool for thinking that other folks are good people, too.

Thanks, again. I might never have known without guidance from the comments here. I might have even thought that the folks on the mall were regular, old, decent people who disagree with us.

The Beck-Palin ralley was really about dissatisfaction with the state of the country on the part of many Americans. Ordinary, middle of the road Americans.
Some 300,000 to 500,000 of them gathered in Washington.

What was said by Beck and Palin gave them momentary comfort, but neither has a message or program that will cure the problems.

No one has come forward who has the ability to cure the divisive split among Americans or to bring the country back to prosperity.

Americans are falling behind on education, and the drive to succeed, which breed the entrepreneurship needed to keep the country prosperous and an example that others can follow (or equal or surpass, given the large numbers of people in China and India), but not regard with disdain.

It's time to stop underestimating the opposition, as I've mentioned on several other threads.

It seems Palin's speech was pitch-perfect for the occasion.   Most important was her description of herself as not a politician but the mother of a veteran.

That will resonate across the whole US.

Mudcatters may enjoy demonizing her, but when you finish that you'd best start to grapple with her appeal--to a huge number of people, it's real.

LA Times: she already has over 2 million followers on Facebook. Probably not all of them are Mudcatters attacking her.

Hasn't the Left learned anything from dealing with Reagan and GWB?

Nah, John and Q... I think ya'll both got it wrong...

First of all, we know very well what Glen Beck stands for and the racist things he has said about Obama and the very misguided things he has said about Democrats... These *red meat issues* are what the Kock family and Dick Armie's lobbiest firm have spend miilions, perhaps billions, of dollars using to do "community organizing" to get a pissed of white people out of their trailers and in the streets...

So what we had yesterday is a hundred thousand pissed off white people, who BTW had been told to stay very close to the Jefferson Memorial and not wander off into the city, listening to guy who was probably scared shitless to bring up any *red meat issues* thinking that he had an opportunity to make his Tea Party look less racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. than it really is...

These were not ordinary Americans, BTW... I watched everything I could last night and, other than a couple black speakers and a couple black folks that the media were able to find, this was a rally that was 99.99% white... That is not ordinary America, Q... That is white America...

Now if Glen Beck wants to really "honor" America he'd quit throwing *red meat* to the rednecks who watch his show and start to talk about *real issues* rather than a steady diet of emotional, wedge, sideshow issues that in the big scheme of things aren't the problems that this country needs to deal with...

But as long as he has the mega-corpoate bucks behind him, Beck will continue the SOS...

As far as I am concerned, Beck is a traitor and the enemy of America... Yesterday was one "time out" day... Nuthin' more and nuthin' less...

Bobert's tirade is really against middle-class, conservative Americans, who have built the country, and only emphasizes the divisions that are weakening the country.
