Her's Petunia to calm Dan's nerves and change his outlook on that smelly little fella that sprayed him last night...

Mrs. Petunia Skunk

We have to save that skunk, folks, so that he can Spray Another Day...so I figured we could maybe gather some *good* smells about skunks in here...

:0)

Friends with a house in the outskirts of the city have had a family of skunks that lives under their house during the season that the kits are born and raised. When this chore is over, mother and brood leave and are not seen until the next year.
They have a cat which doesn't bother the skunks, and generally ignores them.
Skunks spray only when threatened.

Disagree Q, the little creep went out of his way to nail me last night. However Lizzie, I will not hunt him as I said I would, but he better not show his little skunk face around me for awhile until I cool down ...

My basement is still disgusting. Bobad's concoction worked great at getting the olddude de-skunked but does little for my basement that still reeks of the little bastard .. That was awful .. If any of my neighbors were up late last night they would have gotten an eyeful .. one naked old dude stripping down in his front yard and running naked into his house to hit the shower ... my clothes are living in a dumpster right now

that was terrible

We seem to have a skunk who 'drops by' occasionally at night, and just leaves a small squirt to warn other skunks...or cats.. he is around, as a suggestion they not bother him. It's never overwhelming..just a faint reminder he's been by.

In high school my girl friends dad use to de-sent baby skunks. They also had one for a pet. I have to admit it was a cute little critter and would love to sit on your lap like a cat ... I was pretty fond of it .. its name was Percy ..

Now as far as the little creep that got me last night ... I can only hope a big truck come by and turns him into road pizza ... that was uncalled for .. he walk out of the ditch ran in front of me and sprayed. It was like .. hee hee watch his reaction .. I am bored I think I will nail the guy walking around late at night cause I can.

Kinda like living in a dumpster full of rotting onions .. nasty little brat

Stop making me laugh, Dan! I'm still getting over the vision of you running into the back garden, stripping naked. Is that what you meant by having 'butts in your back yard' ? ;0)

Exactly, if there is any good thing about it is being sick with pnemonia I did lose a lot of weight so the vision of me butt naked running through the yard at 3AM wasn't as appaling as it could have been LOL

I even called my chief of police buddie and told him I was going to wack the guy tonight .. he laughed and said just don't shoot near the houses ... hope you get him ...

but like I said, I will refrain from doing that but he better stay away from me for a bit ...

So my wife was sleeping, I come running into the house completely naked .. she wakes up and I get .. Oh for God's sakes .. did you have to drag that into the house. I said , what exactly would you like me to do dear, live outside naked for the rest of my life or until the skunk stink blows off of me in a week or so ...

good grief .. I had a big can of crushed tomatoes ... didn't have tomato juice so I used that and a can of whole tomatoes ... I was like scrubbing with a half a tomato in my hand like it was a bar of soap ..
by the way it doesn't work .. nor does the vinegar .. just makes you stink like a skunk that got into a big ass salad or something ..

then I used Clorox bleach .. .. then about a zillion gallons of water and dish washing detergent .. only thing that worked was this morning with Bobads concoction .. that works ...

I shouldn't post this.

When we had a little farm, we also had a big red setter. It would visit another dog up the road and come back in the late afternoon.
He got sprayed on his way back.
A couple of days later, the same thing happened.
A couple more days and I was sitting on the porch, and saw the dog returning. He was minding his own business, trotting along, when I saw him give a little jump. He made it home, skunked again.

The skunk would hide at the edge of the hay field, and intentionally waylay and spray the poor dog.

Now I hope olddude hasn't become prey for the skunk in his area.

If Bobad's concoction was the stuff with hydrogen peroxide, that was proven at least as effective as the professional anti-stink stuff by the Mythbusters.

Nice thing about skunks is that they're generally hard to get to spray you unless you scare them. (Like when neither you nor the skunk realize the other is there until the 'surprise'.) Another nice thing is that they don't move so fast, so I'd guess they're fairly easy targets. (Cars don't seem to have much trouble.)

There is an old saying, "The fox knows a thousand things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." That goes for the skunk as well:

From my point of view, the REALLY good thing about skunks is that they live in America, along with brown recluse spiders and alligators.

Dan, I've decided the situation is now so serious, what with him lying in wait for you an' all, that this is the only way forward..

Do NOT venture out without these!

ONLY drive this!

Be sure your little fella, when he comes to visit, wears
the Grandbabbie Gear at all times!

And of course, make sure your four-footed friends wear these for future walkies...

Too bad you got sprayed. Skunks are nice animals, but they do have that one bad thing they do. Kind of wipes out the good thoughts about them when you get a blast.

I saw a woman pick up a skunk by the tail once and carry it out of her house. She said they can't spray if they can't raise their tail fully.

Someone told me that if you shoot a skunk in the head it won't have time to raise its tail and spray.

Let's see...tomato juice. It's never worked for me. Could be the tomato grower's association is behind that one.

ichMael
my brother tried that one time in his garage, someone told him that if you shoot one in the head it won't spray. my brothers garage is attached to his house ... wrong .. he had to move out for a couple of days ...

That concoction of bobads was awesome, I recommend it to everyone. It really worked for me ... boy did I need it also

----------------------------------

Skunk Smell Remover

1 quart Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
2 tbsp Dish Detergent. The stuff for washing dishes in the sink, not something for dishwashers.

Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, because it will boil up like Vesuvius. We are, after all, making an oxygen generator. Wash the dog (or old dude) with this while it is still foaming, because it is the oxygen which reacts with the thiols in the skunk stink to neutralize the odor. If it sits around, it will loose it's efficacy because the oxygen boils off. Don't try to store it in an airtight container, because it will blow up. The brew also works for clothes, humans and unlucky

"if you shoot one in the head it won't spray"

No, but it will release it's "spray". Just easier to clean up if required but just as nasty.

I feel obligated to say this for anyone who doesn't understand just how bad this is... a concentrated "spray" on the ground, in mud and sand, from a skunk that has been shot with a gun will make your eyes and nose water if you walk within 20 feet of the carcass for a week.

Dan got a wee shot... and I understand why he would want to preclude same again. Cute? Yeah, right. Cute as a stomach pump. And they are vermin, prone to rabies. They belong in the woods, not next to Dan.

Well, only 2 of the 3 I had to dispose of a while back let loose with spray. Both post mortem. The other one--don't know why the sphincter or whatever it is didn't open up.

Last year I was trying to release a skunk from a live trap and it spun and nailed me. Like a scene from the Matrix, slowed down, a dozen little globules of greenish stench coming at my face, then time sped up again and I juked to the side and caught the spray in the shoulder. Within 15 seconds I couldn't smell the stuff. It fried my olfactory receptors. Two weeks later when I went back to the site I could smell the scent from a quarter mile away.

it is amazing it is so strong that it does freeze you sense of smell it is like the stuff they give you when you pass out .. if it is on you it is so over powering that there just isn't words for it .. Last night was terrible for sure. And then it stinks the whole house up .. today the front yard smelled where I dumped my clothes . I threw bobad's recipe on it and that fixed it but it is amazing. He hit me right above the knee just a small spot ... that as enough .. can't imagine a full blast in the face ..

I can't imagine the hound of my father's cousin chasing one into it's den under the barn and getting sprayed directly in the mouth. The hound plowed field with it's head sideways to the ground all the way to the river, near a thousand yards, sucked water, vomited, sucked water... and was gone for three days.

It is really nasty, there are some dogs that just don't learn for sure. My former boss had one that every other week would get loose and come back with a dead skunk in his mouth .. go figure now what would possess a dog to do that .. yet he kept doing it all the time in the summer.
