hello all.

I am trying to find the lyrics for a comic song which could be called 'Newcastle brown ale'. the chorus goes: 'Newcastle brown, Newcastle brown, the finest old beer you'll find in this town, I've walked many a mile to sit here and smile and drink of that Newcastle brown'...

It is often preceeded by a monologue about Ma Firkin and her constipation and how after various attempts she [Mafeking - geddit?]is relieved of her suffering by the said beer. Can anyone help? I would love to include it in my collection

Hmmm. Sounds like it could be sung to the tune of "Abilene" - with a few impositions on the meter here and there.
Do you happen to know what tune this is sung to, Goldensprocket?

A long time ago in the land of the tyne
the natives were all getting tired of wine
so they dragged up some mud from the tyne river bed
added gallons of nitro and then proudly said

a wayward young climber who fell froma fell
parted soul from his body and went down to hell
when he entered the furnace what did he find
there was the devil stoned out of his mind .. drinking

a young lad from eccles got married quite quick
to a pretty young chick who he's put up the ...... stairs
on the night of their wedding his face went all red
for it wasn't a gozzunder stuck under the bed it were

There's at least one more verse I'm sure but I can't recall it at the moment, I think the chorus line is "i'd walk many a mile to it here IN STYLE and drink of that Newcastle Brown"

Goldensprocket, pm the catter bernard, he still see Ted Edwards from time to time, he has recordings of Ted, it is not however on the CD that he produced for Ted

Back in the sixties a young chap from Manchester who played a five string guitar (Ted Edwards) produced the following about an iconic North East beer, Newcastle Brown. I left Manchester in 1974 to live in the North East and found out first hand about "Newkie Brown" - it's all true. I don't know if Ted is still around or if he is still touring the world.

1. A long time ago in the land of the Tyne,

CHORUS: "Call it Newcastle Brown, Newcastle Brown.
