While the best thing what with all the sand and salt air to take would be my Howard Low C, I would prefer to take Blondie.

Blondie is my 32 Bass Settimo Soprani Piano Accordion. It can play very softly, but also far louder than you would think.

Why Blondie?

Well, she's a real screamer...

My No 1 HAS to be any of my Dixon Whistles , with my Docherty Mandolin as No 2 . Then its a hard choice for No 3 ! Is it the D35 , or the Maya 5 String , 0r even the Banjola ?

Yawn...

Bobert's question may be genuine enough, but it inevitably turns into 'let me boast about the great instruments I own' which is really tedious...

Getting strings on a desert island might be a problem. Otherwise I'd take my ud (which I'm not very good on, but it's a terrific thing for noodling to yourself with).

An Overton whistle makes a great fish spear.

I agree with BWL ~~ matter of mood. Some days I will reach out for my banjo to practice, others my beloved Petersen concert guitar [just the name ~~ I don't play 'concert' guitar music, just folk], others either one of my two Lachenal wooden-ended anglo concertinas: 1905 C/G, 1912 D/A. Occasionally even the 6-bar autoharp I picked up at auction for £4.10.0, back before decimal currency came in 1971.

Please let me take them all. Oh, go on; please; please·please·please·pretty·please.

Yah ~~ meanie!

~Michael~

Rainsong WS1000 carbon fibre guitar. It's not my best sounding guitar, but it would stand up to anything the sea and the tropics could throw at it.

I was asked this very question recently ... and it would have to be my Overton (Goldie) low D whistle.

A desert-island-friendly combination of endless playing pleasure allied to a robust construction able to survive the worst conditions a desert island could throw at it!

At this time, it would be my Dusty Strings D-10 hammered dulcimer. But that's mainly because I recently started back playing it after a rather lengthy hiatus and I've been having way too much fun with it.

Ask me again in a few months and you might get a totally different answer.

My D35 SlotHead, first and foremost. My deceased brother's mandolin. My fiddle- maybe if I were stranded on a desert (NOT dessert, Beaubear!), my bowing arm would learn what it must do.

And now, of course, I see that you said no #2s or #3s...it's olddude's fault, obviously.

My D-28, is first, My old Alvarez second. My old Classical guitar third. If I was allowed a fourth it would be the 5 string banjo but only if I was allowed.

Well, this is going to be very interesting for me...

Hey, everyone I know that has been playin' a long time has accumulated quite a few musical instruments in every shape and form but...

... there's that #1 instrument that if you wre to be stranded on a dessert that you'd wnat to take with you...

BTW, this isn't a "wish list" thread... I'm talkin' abou the one instrument that you now own that would be on that isalnd with you...

And thank you for anyone willing to step to the plate here...

B~
