I'm looking for the lyrics and notes for "Ich bin ein Schweizer Bub". I can play the song on several instruments, I know the melody quite well. I don't have the skill to write the notes out and the words I don't know at all. They are in German, High Germen, I belive.

Hmmm. This is going to be an interesting search. Apparently, the song may be found in Hochdeutsch, Plattdeutsch, and Schweizerdeutsch; and it can be about a boy from Switzerland, Tyrol (Austria), or Steiermark (Austria).

Does anyone know what "Diridum" means? Is it just a name?


Got a number of German CDs and tracks when I was learning German. Trouble is, quite a few were Tyrolean/Zillerthal.

Bit like learning English by listening to the White Heather Club.

Quite enjoyed working it out. Always thought "Bub" was the northern version of Bua but seems not to be the case.

Beethoven wrote or arranged a song "I' bin ei Tyroler buah" (or something like that: I'm a Tyrolean boy), with a yodelish tune.

I spent several hours tonight banging out the notes to 'Ich bin ein Schweizer Bub'쳌 in Finale. I created a midi as well. I didn't know I had it in me to do that. It has a moderate waltz tempo and begins with a pick up note.

I grew up in central Wisconsin in an area which was settled by many people of German origin. I heard, or at least I think heard, this song played and sung at parties and other events when I was young. In fact as I recall I was told no self respecting bride would have considered her marriage to be fully consummated if 'Ich bin ein Schweizer Bub'쳌 had not been sung at her wedding dance. As I said before I can play the tune on several instruments and have done so for nearly 50 years. Not being from a German background I just don't know the words. If any one out there would like a copy of the midi or the notes I could try to sent them to you.

I found a Dutch-Limburgian text of a Student Club written on the tune of Ich bin ein Schweitzer Bub.
But nowhere I can find the melody of that song.
