Ban Sought on Animal Death Videos 10:40 am: LOS ANGELES (AP) - Lawmakers and animal rights activists are calling for a ban on the production of ``crush videos,'' films for viewers who get sexually aroused by watching women smashing rats and other small animals. "It is a mad world, my masters" |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: Roger the zimmer Date: 24 Aug 99 - 06:34 AM Proof read! Sorry, meant to delete the other headlines! |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: Steve Parkes Date: 24 Aug 99 - 08:35 AM Does it say how or with what the women smash the small animals? And can you tell us more about the World's Greatest Locos? |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: Roger the zimmer Date: 24 Aug 99 - 09:25 AM I only cut'n'paste, Steve,( from today's Guardian Online) :that's all there was! A tiple might do it? I think the loco story was a "steam up" (if that's the right word) planned of some historic trains. Sorry, I'm not a train buff (only "sing" Wabash Cannonball; Wreck of the Old 97 ; Freight train etc!)so didn't take the rest in. Quite a strange list of headlines I inadvertantly left there! Glad you had a good time in Canada. My nephew and girlfriend went over there to a wedding about the same time, then went camping in a new tent borrowed from a friend of the groom. Brown bear trashed the tent. Girlfriend vowed never to camp again, now no longer an item! (thread creep is infectious!). Tara a bit. RtZ |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: katlaughing Date: 24 Aug 99 - 11:53 AM That is so sick! Although the cops in Wheatland, WY aren't any better. They couldn't decide on how to remove six Canada geese from a gold course, other than bludgeoning them to death with clubs. Now people who live there know why when they call the cops for a real crime no one is available unless they play golf, of course. People who do such things to animals should die a slow and painful death! katloverofanimals PS: maybe they were in the bear's living room?*smile* |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: Bert Date: 24 Aug 99 - 12:01 PM That's cops for you, Katlover. There was that one on the TV show 'Cops'. A woman had called about a snake that was on her front porch. It turned out to be a beautiful six foot long black snake. Perfectly harmless. The cop get out his stick and kills it. And they show this on TV. Bert. |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: Steve Parkes Date: 24 Aug 99 - 12:41 PM In Britain we send for the RSPCA. If you're really lucky, you get Rolf Harris as well! I heard in Canada it's considered good luck if there's a bear in your garden and you see it; if you don't see it, that's considered bad luck! Actually, we have a tv series (just finished) with Robson Jerome as a cop given the extra job of doing the animal protection bit. It's quite entertaining, and RJ has been roped in to protect badgers in Staffordshire (for the publicity, I presume). Steve |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: katlaughing Date: 24 Aug 99 - 01:38 PM I HOPE BBC-America runs that program! We have several animal protection groups, they just aren't very powerful in hicksville Wyoming, where men are men and sheep are nervous. I love the land, can't stand most of what we term, tongue firmly in cheek, "down valley in-bred white trash" and if you quote me I will deny it! There ARE good people here, but in general, the animals-are-here-to-be-exploited-by-man mentality prevails. kat |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: Marion Date: 24 Aug 99 - 02:31 PM Katlaughing, if you don't mind me asking, are you vegetarian? I noticed that I wasn't the only one steering clear of the jello pit. Marioneaterofplantsandtheoccasionalfungusorinorganicsubstance |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: katlaughing Date: 24 Aug 99 - 03:56 PM Marion, Yes, that is until last February, I had to increase the protein to lose weight and cut way down on carbohydrates, so modified it to include some fish and once in a great while, chicken. It means the difference between living and deteriorating fairly quickly for me, so....I've lost 40 lbs, and when I am done losing, I will be going back to all vegetarian. I do use a special protein flour and shake mix, both, but they are expensive, though really, really low in carbs, so I can stay within my range. I hadn't even looked at the jello pit because of that:-) Nice to know another "granola" is on here! All the best, kat |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: DougR Date: 24 Aug 99 - 05:11 PM I'm confused. I read all the messages in this thread and can't find one reference to possoms. If possoms are an endangered species, I think we should be told about it. The possom lovers of the world could unite! I'm not much into rats, though, Kat. DougR |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: Steve Parkes Date: 25 Aug 99 - 03:36 AM Are you new around here, Doug? |
Subject: RE: Possums beware From: paddymac Date: 26 Aug 99 - 03:13 AM Possum lovers, Unite! Then go to the possum fair in Panhandle Fl, Holmes County. Start saving you pennies now, cause it's usually in early August (i think). What a cool way to greet the millenium! If anybody really cares, I'd be happy to dig up more exact info. |
