Subject: Shirt on his back? 45 miles from home? From: katlaughing Date: 25 Aug 99 - 06:00 PM Got a call from my sister who is in Nebraska. She has a parishioner who wants to use some song lyrics in a talk he is putting together. It is a country western song (sorry!) and, of course, they don't know the title or artist. :-) What they do know is it is something about a man, possibly Jesus, who has only the shirt on his back, who is never far from home, something about 45 miles (maybe), and the good that he does with so little. Ring any bells?? Thanks a bunch! I didn't ahve any luck on the DT or Cowpie. kat |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shirt on his back? 45 miles from hom From: Rick Fielding Date: 25 Aug 99 - 06:06 PM Possibly a variant of Hedy West's 500 miles? Or a variant of "Tramp on the Street"? Sorry I can't be of more help. Rick |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shirt on his back? 45 miles from hom From: katlaughing Date: 26 Aug 99 - 06:42 PM Thanks, Rick. So far we're batting zero. I can't find any C&W sites that have a search by phrase except Cowpie & it didn't show anything close. I'll see if I can find out more from my sister. katlaughing |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shirt on his back? 45 miles from hom From: DJFarns1@aol.com Date: 26 Aug 99 - 10:35 PM I Don't know if this help, but here are the lyrics as I learned them: If you miss the train I'm on, you will know that I am gone You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles. A hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles, you can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles. Not a shirt on my back, not a penny to my name Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home. Five hundred miles, five hundred miles (etc), Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home. Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two, Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four, Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home, away from home, away from home, away from home, (cont.) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shirt on his back? 45 miles from hom From: katlaughing Date: 27 Aug 99 - 10:23 AM From you, Doug, I'd take just about anything.....in the way of thread Creeps!**BG** Just talked to my sister and nothing new. Man went around the country with only the shirt on his back, doing good, BUT only went 45 miles from home....no further, probably about Jesus. She said she remembers hearing it at least ten years ago and it is definitely from the Country & Western genre. Thanks, all! kat |
