Does anyone have the words or know the name and artist for the song that I think starts our "Down by the river that flows by the coal yard --------------------something about Patches is waiting for me. I believe it was around 1958 and the name of the song was probably "Patches". It was a ballad of the pop charts. Thanks Les

The artist that did this was Dicky Lee, I believe. For some reason I think of Pat Boone...only because he did Muddy Waters" and the so callled EM ws there (or at least it sounded like it) brought it to mind....Leave it to us Irish or Welsh to tune that in. hope that helps. Try and go to the DB (DTB ) hell, I have enough trouble remembering the 10 codes in my job ( and se what you get...but I think I am right...It came out about 1961 Im just guessing (and giving my age away..) The only saving grace about "Sharona" is the rendition done by Cheech Marin in "Next Movie" ...He's driving along and doesn't know the words (no one can understand them anyway) so he's going, "DA,daDAH,da,da,dedah,dah,dah, dedah,dedah,MY SCROTUM,DA,daDAH,da,da,dedah,dah,dah,MY SCROTUM....

And one that used to get stuck in my head (right up until I spontaneously burst (sorry about the mess) into it in the middle of the mom-munching scene in Night of the Living Dead) was "Yummy, yummy, yummy, I've got love (Mom) in my tummy." And there was the sequel, "Chewey Chewey, Chewey" that probably should have come first.

In addition to "Tell Laura I love her" and "Teen Angel", I also recall a song called "One Last Kiss" (Where, oh where, can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me. She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good...so I can see my baby when I leave this world.)

I believe there's also one where the love doesn't die after all - "Endless Sleep".

And of course, there's always "She Moved Through the Fair".

Now, when you get a dead-lover folk song, at least a visit from same is a warning of impending doom. Has anyone heard "Th' Unquiet Grave"? Rosalie S. does it, I know. Don't know who else. I heard about this one most of my life, but didn't hear it until Rosalie did it. Girl's engaged to be married; fiancee dies (of something now curable) and is buried; girl takes to moping around the grave and weeping and wishing he could come back; a year later he does--but to tell her off(Leave me in peace, get on with your life, this moping around is NOT A Good Thing...).
