Friday 19th November at the Brewtown Folk Club in Burton on Trent is the last gig by Cockersdale. After more than 25 Years of performing at clubs and festivals across the country we are calling it a day. We may do the odd gig for charity but our touring days are over.

We'd like to thank everyone for their support and friendship over the years and hope to see you around.

Thanks

Graham, I throughly agree with Lead, I saw Cokersdale perform for the the first time after Keith had passed at Bedworth. It was a brilliant concert, and a total joy to listen to. I still sing a couple of Keith's songs, perhaps its time to dig out the book and sing a few more!

Wassail!! Chris

I suppose we all have Cockersdale stories, a massive influence on the three of us, Ron tells a story of getting up to sing at a singers night and quite anonymously Cockersdale, on the way to or from a gig, were in the audience, when he reached the chorus of his first song he got blown away with the harmonies from the audience. Anyway thanks for all the entertainment over the years and enjoy your singing for more years to come, we have the CD's and the memories and maybe catch one of your charity gigs. Thanks again for the huge impact your music had on my life.
Peter

I enjoyed you last at Bodmin

Always polished in presentation and performance with a repertoire of substance and intellect. Truly a standard for others to aim for.

God bless you

I am very sad, and can only thank you for the pleasure and huge influence you have had on me and many around me. I really hope I catch a charity gig (or maybe the odd reunion) in the future. I know that both Keith's songs and Cockersdale will be remembered with great fondness, and whether you like it or not, you will all be associated with the good old times, whatever you go on to do in the future.

I discovered the recordings of Cockersdale only a few months ago, and they quickly became favorites. I wish the best to all of you.

Having known Cockersdale from the very begining when the lineup included Peter Ogley and Sue Thornton I would just like to say what great pleasure the group has given to so many people.Throughout the years I have booked them many times and they have never failed to give a cracking little night.I am sure like Cleckheaton many other festivals will miss then. Thankyou very much. Geoff Pickles

Thank you all for the very kind comments.

Brewtown went really well with a great turn out and everyone joining us enthusiastically.

Sad, but the clubs, festivals, concerts the years - and most particularly, the people we have met have all been a pleasure.

Thank you to you all

The three of you will be greatly missed. Like Joe Offer I have only discovered Cockersdale relatively recently and had the honour to see and here you at Harthill on Bonfire night. Thanks to John I have now completed the full set of Cockersdale CDs and have listened to them many times. To say they are good is an understatement!. I have sung a few myself mainly at Wath Folk Club and am learning many more, however, my efforts will never match the songs I heard you sing at the Beehive.
I do hope you make the odd comeback, if you do please post it on this thread, as I will watch in hope.
I am glad Brewtown went well, am sorry I was not able to get there and am sure all attending were truly entertained, did John get emotional?
Good luck in all you do, have you considered doing a farewell CD?

Hello all,
For those that are interested, Cockersdale are doing a charity night at Tynefolk (Ryton) - one, if not the only performance of 2012.

If anyone is interested we'd love to see you there.

Check it out at http://www.tynefolk.co.uk

I see John in our local 'Costa' from time to time, usually head buried in the newspaper! Glad to hear that you're getting back together, even if only for one gig. A bit too far to travel from Lincs., but I'd love to be there.

Have a good 'un!

Hope to see you all singing together somewhere in the future for one offs

The songs of Keith Marsden were crafted by a master poet, singer and keen social historian with an eye for detail and ear for a good tune

He was, I found very down to earth and "street wise" ~ virtually every singaround at festivals has a number of Keith Marsden songs performed.

His songs have in my view passed into the English folk song Tradition

Wonderful wonderful social comment from the past 60 years of the 20th Century (post 2nd WW) of working class life and existence

Ray

Sadly Tyneside is a bit too far from Chelmsford (where you put on a great show a few years back). But it would be wonderful if you could do Whitby again. You were terrific last year.
