When my Mum and Dad were in their teens they had a song which they made theirs.... Mum died in 2005 and Dad last year.. both from cancer. I recorded this song in their honour.. pity they can't hear it.

Well on July the 3rd there will be a new Yellowbellies 3 CD (Artist's with strong links to Lincolnshire) coming out as a charity CD for Macmillan Cancer. It has 21 tracks on it and will cost £10 plus P&P of around £1.50 in the UK. There are a number of mudcatters on it. Nice playing Jon and good choice of tunes.

I had problems when I started recording myself, but as time goes on I am getting less nervous and am able to get things right with fewer "takes".

I find if I don't get it right after the first two or three times, I usually get worse and worse. Then I find it best to pack up and try again some other time or record something else. It also helps to be comfortable with your material and be prepared to record at a slightly slower tempo on quick tunes as I find I am then less prone to mistakes.

Thanks for the advice. I've certainly noticed things getting worse and worse...

When I have a go, I do try to pick on what I think are my safest tunes and generally go for fewer notes than I'd perhaps attempt if in a session - although that can depend on mood, how fast a tune is going, whether (rarely) I've wound up leading the tune, etc.

One other thing I thought of. I find having dots/words in front of me when I am recording helps. It removes one more stress factor. After all, no one need know.

I can imagine that being helpful for some but I'm afraid I'm not a sight reader. (stumbling block when I've tried is timing. I seem unable to put say knowing one note is twice as long as another into practice).
