Well, for a place that stays pretty much the same, there was a MAJOR alignment change discovered in the universe of The Press Room (our local pub) tonight. If one didn't pay attention to the identifications on the doors, one found oneself in the wrong loo. The Ladies' is now the Gents and vice versa. Lots of consternation and confusion amongst a) those who didn't bother to check the sign and just plunged ahead and b) those who thought it might be a practical joke. (Or an impractical joke.) Anywho, caused much hilarity (and embarrassment) over the evening.

Chris Vaughn, our resident song writing transplanted Scotsman, penned a verse (which may turn into a song or chorus of a song) and sang it before pinning it to the new Ladies' room door --

Oh! the world it's been turned upside down
      I don't think that's very grand,
Because the place where once you sat
Is the place where I now stand!

We are such creatures of habit. How long will it take before we automatically aim towards the proper door? And what will happen if we've had a Guinness or two (or five) to snap the brain synapses?

Now, though, I'll really be able to ascertain once and for all if what used to be the men's room has better acoustics than the former ladies'...what's agreed is the loos have the best acoustics in the house!

Linn

Not sure whether shanty session regulars have seen this -- I dunno if there are appropriate nautical songs that come to mind...

Nothing sung specifically about the rearrangement, but a bit of confusion and consternation not just by session regulars, but other Press Room regulars.

Tom emphatically states that the acoustics of the new mens' room is nowhere near as good as the acoustics of the former (now the ladies' room).

Oh, dear, what can the matter be?
There's no urinal left in the lavatory;
Only a wall where it used to be,
Now we are left in despair!

Cheerily,
Charley Ignoble

Thought I'd better tack this on to this thread, too --

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ladies in the Lavatory...
From: Jeri - PM
Date: 25 Nov 10 - 11:31 AM

Oh dear, what can the matter be
Ladies are using the gentlemen's lavat'ry
They go through the door from Sunday to Saturday
And everyone knew they went there

Oh dear, what can the matter be
Gentlemen using the ladies lavat'ry...

One to go there, almost it was Jeri
But she'd heard the news, and so she was wary
But I'm sure she'll go in when she gets too merry
And everyone knew she went there
