Butt (pun intended), here's why I believe in God... I was up on the Winchester bypass one day when a woman drivin' a new Caddie Escallade --- I mean she was decked out --- had pulled off the side of the road and, well, apparently, that fat enema had kicked in and she had that 5th Sachs Ave. dress pulled outta the way and was takin' care of buziness right there on the side of the road!!! Sho nuff was...

Although the argument by the right-fingerers is that leaving more money in the hands of the wealthy will encourage investment and job creation, it's a lot easier to invest in "paper" that does nothing for the rest of us. There is good evidence that there is plenty of available money, but it isn't being used to build industries or to employ people.

A moderately higher tax rate can be offset by a "business expense" deduction. Although the money to purchase new industrial equipment and to hire people to run them comes out of the bank account, it still offers some odds on returning a future profit, and since invested money can usually be claimed as an expense to reduce your taxable income, the government still takes less of "yours."

Raising taxes on the middle and lower classes will do nothing to create jobs because they have nothing to invest.

Raising taxes on those with significant hoards of "cash" (convertible assets) will encourage investments that are "sheltered" in some way, and most of the shelters - if indirectly - are of kinds more likely to result in expanded industry and the creation of work for the populace. With low taxes on those with the accumulated wealth, it all stays in the bank or in paper trading that does nothing for the economy.

Oh, no, the tax cuts kicked in last month - I was cleared 4 months back.
It's an interesting thought but the little amount of money we're getting - something like $10/fortnight, doesn't help relieve much stress. Still, it's better than a kick in the pants, or a lump in the boob!
And I've still got one left!

Actually, corporations pay no tax at all. The money they get is what they get from their customers. After they pay their expenses, the government takes a share of whats left in corporate tax. But the revenue just came from the customers in the first place.

So what corporations are really doing is collecting revenue from their customers and passing some of it along as a "tax."

Cutting taxes can increase spending. Spending can increase demand. Demand can stimulate business. But the additional amount of spending by the wealthiest segment of the economy is apt to be trivial. Not a terribly efficient approach.

Yes the thing to do is raise taxes on the super-wealthy and cut all taxes on the people who would actually go out and SPEND it. The engine of our economy isn't rich people getting richer playing margins on paper money. In fact that's bad for our economy: witness October 2008.
