These are built by McDOnald's and are for parents with children in various hospitals who need a place to stay.

Anyway, this writer on Huffingtonpost said she would donate a dollar to anyone who wrote a comment about her post about giving to this charity.

This is absolutely astounding to me..did nobody take one minute to sign in and write a brief comment? One minute for one dollar equals $60/hour...and no one can be bothered to do that for a really important charity? And yet weap and moan about everyone being heartless etc? Come on. There are exactly 8 people who have written comments there..bringing in $8 total..I think over 2 days...she does this by the day...and this is a worldwide audience..hundreds of thousands of people read the Huffingtonpost and 8 people in the whole world have commented? Should be thousands by now. I truly do not understand the people here or elsewhere. mg

I will tell you this..in Seattle before the ROnald McDonald lhouse was built, and probably now if it is full, people were in the parking lots of Childrens' Hospital sleeping in their cars, waiting for their children to have heart surgery, get cancer treatments etc. No good place to cook or wash or take care of younger kids. How in the name of all that is holy, in the name of Yahweh and Allah and GOd almight, and I am not being blasphemous here, can you not make a little click and write a few words, regardless perhaps of what you think of McDonald's? mg

mg, my friend...It seems you are wanting us to read and respond to your worthy thread in less than ten minutes from your original post? Come on now, give folks a chance to read and respond, eh?

Patience, please. Most people here are only at the computer at certain times of the day or night. :)

Maeve, who will go have a look at the opportunity.

Yep, you did, Mary. I guess I'm too tired. So hang in there for a while and we'll see what response you get. I'm not on Facebook, and I give directly to such good causes when I have anything I can give. I expect there will be those here who are already on Facebook and will comment at your link, thus adding to the donation total.

Maeve

The beauty of this is that someone else will give the money..so those who are strapped for cash can also easily make a donation...mg

That's right...if they are signed up on Facebook. It's a fair offer for those who are.

Good luck!

This reminds of years ago Hanes her Way gave out free women's underpants...I said I will get my friends to sign up and we will give them to the homeless..who as everyone knows have great problems getting new underwear, keeping it clean etc..here was a great opportunity..do you think they could be bothered, even when I said I would fill out the forms for them..oh maybe they were afraid of getting on a mailing list or something..but when something is so easy and the need is so great I frankly have a very hard time understanding..mg

This is the first I`ve seen this thread. I have no idea who you are, mg, but YOU do not dictate my morals or conscience, and nor do you tell me what kind of person I am because I didn`t see your post. Yesterday I sent some money to a worthy cause. I would not assume that because I did and you may not have that you are heartless. I will go to the HP and see if I can post a comment, but I am glad you don`t do public relations for the worthy cause--and it is--that you support. I think you`re a woman, so I won`t say what first came to my mind.

Done. That now makes it $9.00.

The site is difficult to me and much too cluttered. BUT, it`s done.

Actually it is $18 because someone is doubling up to $1000. Thank you. You can google these houses..they are quite wonderful. THere is usually a box at McDonald's to drop change in for them. There are over 300 world-wide. mg

I know a family who used one of the houses for a while when their child was in hospital for chemo. Despite the hoopla about the fast-food chain, I recall when crossing Canada with our (then) eldest, that finding a place to eat was difficult. Restaurants would say stuff like `Is she coming in too.` At one place in Ontario I said, `Absolutely not. She might make noise, We intended to leave her in the trunk of the car.`

McDonalds welcomed ALL of us with open arms. I appreciated that more than most people will ever know. You`ve done a good thing bringing this to our attention. My apologies for that uncalled-for outburst, mg.

I also did mine, Mary. My niece had the McDonald house to stay in when she gave birth to her two preemie twins. A worthwhile cause.

Funny story a week or so ago I was in Detroit and the guy that plays Ronald McDonald came in when I was having a cup of coffee and a pie (I know I know) but I like it! He came over to all the people and was joking around. When he came to me I said "wow the economy is so bad Ronald is now eating at McDonald's) he started joking with me and we were trading them back and forth ... I finally joking I said "go away you clown" and he started laughing. I had lots of fun ...

They do good things for sick kids ... I would help them in anyway I could.

Just added mine. I signed in through my Yahoo account, assuming that that would be less entangling than other possibilities; but I had to grant H.P. access to my Yahoo information, so I hope I don't regret that.

Re donating in general...

I "circumvented" the whole issue years ago. Besides the fact that I have supported The Mudcat Café over the years (I benefitted, so I gave) and certain people in need, I have only one charity, that being a regional children's hospital. When asked for support for any charity, I simply say, "IWK Childrens' Hospital is my only charity."

Oh. I do donate to the Air Force Cadets when they have a drive on and when they say thanks I say, "Thank YOU."
