May have a tiny bit of extra for Christmas this year, so I've been looking at autoharps on ebay. Would some of you who know about them take a gander and tell me what you think of THIS ONE. And/or would I just get frustrated having so few strings?

Thanks!

I sold my 40 year old Oscar Schmidt last December on consignment at Rufus' Guitar Shop (Vancouver). My share was $250!

So even if it needs some repairs....

Kat, those instruments are all over the place on price. See if this link is working to let you see the completed sales, and consider from these what the one you're thinking about might cost/is worth. It looks like little activity now, but it probably won't always be that way. Some of them have gone much higher than the starting bid.

Thanks, SRS. I knew they were all over the price range. By the looks of it, I might be able to find one I can afford. Reminds me, I think I will check out the goodwill online, too.

Kat, our local Folk Festival has a bring-&-buy hour, which is well attended. Artists selling their records, instruments for sale, tuners, etc.
I have sold two guitars there that I bought on the EBay equivalent. I bid on three possibles and got them all, at the sort of prices that the Autoharp sellers are asking. The one that I kept is lovely, and the other two were OK after a little work. I didn't make anything, but I got a good guitar and didn't lose anything.

Just a thought, if you are inclined to take a punt.

Thanks, Gurney, but we don't have anything like that nearby out here, that I know of. Good idea if we did, though, I'd be there!

I did manage to get something affordable for our budget on ebay. It's not an Oscar Schmidt, but for a first timer, for my grandson and myself, I hope it will be fun. I don't know if this link will work or not, but HERE IT IS.

Thanks to you all, private and public. I appreciate your help.

Hmmm...in looking, closely, at the supersized pix, I see this is an Oscar Schmidt. Hope it is a good sounding one. I see "Peripole" on something inside the case and that is what they sold it as, so it's curious unless that is a brand that Schmidt had, too. Anyone know?

Kat, it was me who proposed the bring-and-buy about 1976 when I acted on the committee of the festival. No good reason why you couldn't propose one, too.
There is usually a music dealer and a Luthier or two there, as well as the casuals. Held on a Sunday morning before the serious stuff starts.

Hope you enjoy your autoharp.   Chris.
