At last nights folk club at the X Keys the subject of local carols came up. Has anyone got the music for Sheffield and or Saddleworth local Carols.

Search for 'Village Carols'; there is a website where you can buy books of about a dozen carols in each and they are pretty cheap. I can't easily give link from my phone, sorry

The Worral Blue Book is a good one, 90+ versions in four part harmony
As are all Ian Russells books.
Both are Sheffield based, but tunes have a habit of wandering around and cropping up somewhere else with a different name.
I would like to know about a Saddleworth book if one exists.

As far as I am aware some of the local Saddleworth tunes were written by local church organists and the like.I do know of one called Silver Hill that is played in Delph on Whit Friday but in the old days used as a version of While Shepherds just one of dozens used for this carol in Yorkshire.

The Padstow carols book is called 'Strike Sound' and is in 4 parts too
