Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Holbrooke From: Bobert Date: 13 Dec 10 - 10:42 PM Bummer... Yeah, the guy was all about some boring stuff that is all part of large negotiations but... ...hey??? Someone has to have the temperament and people skills to do it and... ...he did it well... Need more Richard Holbrookes in the world and less Dick Cheneys... B~ |

Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Holbrooke From: GUEST,Genie Date: 13 Dec 10 - 11:45 PM Very sad, though not unexpected news. He had been in critical condition too long for me to feel optimistic. So sad he didn't make it. |

Subject: RE: Obit: US Diplomat Richard Holbrooke (1941-2010) From: Brian May Date: 14 Dec 10 - 02:37 PM I find the concept of feeling sorry for the passing of politicians or diplomats a bit difficult. Set against the information currently being released on Wikileaks, the stuff I saw in the 80s is still going on, and on, and on. I daresay there are good ones, if this gentleman was one, then indeed we should be sad, but I don't trust one of them further than I can throw them. |

Subject: RE: Obit: US Diplomat Richard Holbrooke (1941-2010) From: Bill D Date: 14 Dec 10 - 06:32 PM "...if this gentleman was one, then indeed we should be sad..." One article said he was "born to be Sec. of State"... but he had one serious flaw...he actually CARED about solving problems and saving lives more than political considerations. Read all the articles....you will see that this was a once-in-a-lifetime diplomat. |
