Subject: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: melodeonboy Date: 20 Dec 10 - 05:43 AM A year or so ago, Ardbeg whisky was available in nearly all supermarkets (in the U.K.). It's now disappeared from the shelves! As it's by far my favourite whisky, I'd like to know what's happened! Does anybody know? |

Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: John MacKenzie Date: 20 Dec 10 - 09:24 AM A wee tip here. Tesco's own brand Islay malt is sometimes Ardbeg, and sometimes it is Bowmore. If it's really really pale, it's likely to be the Ardbeg. |

Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 20 Dec 10 - 11:02 AM I tought at first you meant that someone had drunk it! Supermarkets seem to vary their selections of whisky all the time, and as I like to vary what I'm drinking, I'm not too bothered. |

Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: Silas Date: 20 Dec 10 - 12:18 PM Bowmore is very good. As is Tescos Finest 12 yr bended - better than quite a few malts |

Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 20 Dec 10 - 07:36 PM I've never met a single malt I didn't like (apart from Bushmills), but some I like more than others. Just working my way through a bottle of the Singleton (hence any spelling etc mistakes). Rosebank RIP |

Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: Ross Campbell Date: 21 Dec 10 - 04:07 AM If you're unable to find Ardbeg locally, you could always try mail order (your own risk - the Post Office won't allow insurance on bottles). This tiny shop in Bowmore, Islay, has the most amazing selection of single malts, not just from the Islay distilleries (they have Port Ellen which closed as a distillery years ago), but also mainland malts and blends, up to forty-year-old bottlings, etc, etc:- http://www.islaywhiskyshop.com/ I have no connection to the shop - I came across it while visiting my brother when he worked on the island a couple of years ago. Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: Dave Hanson Date: 21 Dec 10 - 04:18 AM Thereis a most amazing whisky shop in Skipton, North Yorkshire. I think the have got them all, it's certainly the only place I've found Glenfarclas. Dave H |

Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: Dave Hanson Date: 21 Dec 10 - 04:22 AM Supermarkets often don't carry a good range of malt whiskies but they are hard to beat on price, I've just bought a couple of bottles of Laphroaig Quarter Cask at Sainsburys, £20.00 a bottle. Dave H |

Subject: RE: BS: Where's the Ardbeg gone? From: John MacKenzie Date: 21 Dec 10 - 05:05 AM If you ever find a bottle, try Dallas Dhu. The distillery is now closed, but there's still some around. Mind you, it's not cheap. |
