Kevin - what a great message! Hope your ribs are ok - a member of our folk club went into cardiac arrest last July at the folk club, shortly after singing, and only survived until the paramedics arrived because of the prompt attentions of another club member who is a nurse and the barmaid who knew how to use the defibrillator, but 3 ribs were broken in the process....

From: McGrath of Harlow

Kevin has now had some tests on his heart. He'll be having an angiogram some time this week.

Here is a message from him:

Thanks for all the messages of support. The Mudcat really is a fantastic place to hang out in. And I always love the different ways we express that kind of thing round the world.

Everybody needs to learn how to do CPR. If I'd gone down five minutes before, by the side of the road, I'd have had it. As it is I'd just arrived at our church for Mass and there were people who knew what to do. Stained glass and all, good place to go, but a better place not to go. I don't know if the people working on me sang "Nellie the Elephant" which is the approved song in this country for keeping the rhythm of the compressions. I gather that Americans use "Staying Alive", but that's a bit literal I feel.

I'll be in touch again. I can't use a laptop in here.

Kevin

Sorry to hear of your crisis and glad you're pulling through. I won't wish you a speedy recovery because I know from experience that slow and steady wins the day in this type of situation. Listen to the docs and you'll be up and moving before you know it.

Kevin's contributions to Mudcat over many years have helped to keep it saner, and more grounded, than it might otherwise have been.

Like many others, I feel that I "know" someone I have never met.

Best wishes for a continued recovery to Kevin and thanks to his family for keeping us updated.

All the very best.

Far too much of this kind of thing going on here at Mudcat.
Henceforth, will all Mudcatters kindly refrain from falling ill, having accidents or any activity likely to give rise to this type of thread!!
Kevin, I sincerely hope you make a fast and full recovery!

In the meantime, will everyone just stop it!?!?

I've only just picked this one up...I'm so glad that bad news has turned into good news. Keep on mending, my friend!

And I believe it's called "ICU Psychosis" - something to do with all the powerful stuff they whack into the system. (It almost sounds like the title of a Bowser and Blue song!)

Kevin McGrath is one of those Mudcatters that when I think of him, it startles me to realize that we've never met. He is such a real presence everywhere hs shows up. Glad to hear that he is recuperating nicely.

Kevin, at one point my mother 'suffered' hallucinations- actually, she didn't suffer at all, she enjoyed them hugely.

One day she told my brother that her bed was floating on a lake and it was very pretty. He said, Hey, Mom, you know, don't you, that you are lying in bed in your bedroom, don't you?

She shook her head. Scooping her hand and arm over the edge of the bed, she flung imaginary water all around. Ask 'Ebbie', she said. I splashed her!
