Subject: RE: McGrath of Harlow: UPDATE Jan. 10 From: Herga Kitty Date: 10 Jan 11 - 06:17 PM Kevin - what a great message! Hope your ribs are ok - a member of our folk club went into cardiac arrest last July at the folk club, shortly after singing, and only survived until the paramedics arrived because of the prompt attentions of another club member who is a nurse and the barmaid who knew how to use the defibrillator, but 3 ribs were broken in the process.... Subject: RE: McGrath of Harlow: message from his son From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 10 Jan 11 - 03:56 PM Kevin has now had some tests on his heart. He'll be having an angiogram some time this week. Here is a message from him: Thanks for all the messages of support. The Mudcat really is a fantastic place to hang out in. And I always love the different ways we express that kind of thing round the world. Everybody needs to learn how to do CPR. If I'd gone down five minutes before, by the side of the road, I'd have had it. As it is I'd just arrived at our church for Mass and there were people who knew what to do. Stained glass and all, good place to go, but a better place not to go. I don't know if the people working on me sang "Nellie the Elephant" which is the approved song in this country for keeping the rhythm of the compressions. I gather that Americans use "Staying Alive", but that's a bit literal I feel. I'll be in touch again. I can't use a laptop in here. Kevin |

Subject: RE: McGrath of Harlow: message from his son From: Ebbie Date: 09 Jan 11 - 10:46 PM Kevin McGrath is one of those Mudcatters that when I think of him, it startles me to realize that we've never met. He is such a real presence everywhere hs shows up. Glad to hear that he is recuperating nicely. Kevin, at one point my mother 'suffered' hallucinations- actually, she didn't suffer at all, she enjoyed them hugely. One day she told my brother that her bed was floating on a lake and it was very pretty. He said, Hey, Mom, you know, don't you, that you are lying in bed in your bedroom, don't you? She shook her head. Scooping her hand and arm over the edge of the bed, she flung imaginary water all around. Ask 'Ebbie', she said. I splashed her! |
